Any Open University students?

Having read Dave's thread on aero suspension, he mentioned an OU course, just wondered how many on here have done them or are doing them.

I'm doing a BEng, been in it for about 3 years and now finishing level 2 with M263 (not sure of the title it's basic software programming though).

I find it to be a PITA.

They suggest 2 hours a day EVERY day for a 60 point course, which my maths one was last year, so this year I'm doing 30 and there's still not enough time in a day to do it!!!

I always end up writing the assignment at the last minute, by copying most of it from the book!

Last year I got like 87% in assignments and 54% on the exam!!!

AARRGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!

So anyone else doig this piss-take university degree? Finding it easy/hard? What courses doing/done?

TBH I'm glad I'm doing it this way rather than going away for 3 years, at least I've been working since I left school.

I'm doing an IT and Computing Degree with the OU.

In my 3rd year - another 2 to go.

I love it :D I've done most of it before tho, so it's not so hard. And I am interested in the subject so its not such a chore.

This year, I'm doing 2 level 2 courses, a 30 and a 60 point (MT262 and M260). Most weeks I do about 10 hours.

This is my first year of exams though, got 2 coming up.

Hello there fellow students.

I'm doing a Business Studies degree - not sure yet if I'm going to specialise it in Systems Practice or not. This is my third year with another three to go, I have one more assignment this year due on the 9th September and then a 3hr exam on 11 October. I signed up for next year a few months back (I have three compulsory courses so 2005, 2006 and 2007 are/were already set for me, it's just 2008 that I have to choose a course for).

I averaged 80% in my first year, 74% last year, and this year I'm currently on 87%, but like you Trev I fear my exam score may be lower... To be honest I'm not that fussed, I just want a degree (as long as it's not a third), the only incentive I have is to beat my girlfriend who has a 2.2 :)

All of my courses have been rated as requiring 15hrs of study a week, but I average much less than that, and I always take the week after TMAs 'off' and don't do anything that week. I could never say I enjoy studying, it's 'okay' - I had a very theory based course last year which was a bit naff, but this year has been much more example and case-study based. I tend to do mine when I come home from work as I'm still in a 'thinking' mode and do 5pm-7pm. Around TMA time I cram a bit on the reading, and have three weeks of serious exam revision coming up where I've skimped bits through the year. Anything over 70% for a TMA and I'm happy - my very first TMA with the OU was 68% and that's the only one under 70% so far.

Hang in there matey - I go through times when I would quite happily jack it in, but what I found useful was to look at the degree as a whole. If you add up all the TMAs, or the points per course, or the years, there's usually some markers along the way. This is my half way point in terms of years. Next year I'll go over the half way point in terms of points. Half way through next year I reach a half way mark for number of TMAs I'll have to do, and the year after that I reach the two-thirds marker for points. There's usually some pointer somewhere you can use as a milestone to boost morale.
