Rear adjustable anti roll bar + handling advice

What settings have people used on adjustable sway bars?..

 

Mine is quite tail happy some times!

 

I'm not opposed to a bit of sideways in fact on track I'm all for it but I want to make it more manageable and predictable to bring back..

 

At the moment it is on stock shitty jspec suspension which won't be helping .. Will be upgrading to BC RS coils next year..

 

What would be the key things to a decent set up that will be fun and predictable?

Im running the BC coilovers with titan adjustable front and rear ARB's.

 

Im yet to set things up as im still building the car, however i was always told to set the front to the stiffest and rear to the softest, and slowly increase the rear to be stiffer (This is for the ARBs not the coilovers)

 

Anyone confirm this ? :shrug:

Haha il wind it back then lol middle is probably good?

 

Like i said i am still building my car, so cant offer much more help :(

 

Depends on a lot of other things within the suspension setup also, trial and error with setups also. Wheels/tyres/ride height/spring settings/arb settings etc.. etc.....

Whats the point in having the rear adjustable without matching the front arb, of course it`ll be tail happy.:)

 

That's the kind of advice I need.. Front adjustable on the shopping list haha! I just want to know how to create and what I need to get it handling as I want :)

I'm about to release my own set of adjustable anti roll bars chaps, these will be available January sometime. They are based on what we learnt from our Time Attack and racing days as we tried a few different setups back then.

Full geometry set up would be a good place to start especially if your fitting adjustable coilovers, you can

have it corner weighted as well as get the camber caster and toe done.

 

Speak to CW on here or Chris Franklin at http://www.centregravity.co.uk cg set my car up and it was superb to drive even on 19's :blink:

 

Blue is the stiffest and red the softest, the further away from the main

part of the arb you go the more leverage you have so it becomes softer.

I run Titan Motorsport anti-roll bars on my car, along with Chris Wilson fast road dampeners and springs.

 

So far I've found that the front grips best with the front ARB set to its softest setting, tried it on the hardest setting and just got loads of mid corner wash-out, which shredded tyres.

 

The rear ARB I have set to the middle setting, any harder and the rear becomes too skittish, great turn-in but hard to keep it all in check when feeding the power in once the apex has been hit and the corner exit is in sight.

 

The car corners lovely and flat now but with enough give in the bars to allow the outside front tyre to load-up properly in the corners, which seems to suit the rest of my suspension set-up well.

When I first started collecting parts to adapt the car for track use a well established builder/tuner told me not to worry about a front ARB to begin with. A stiffer rear ARB would improve initial turn-in as it helps to dial out some of the understeer most production cars are designed with.

 

What he said certainly proved true, the rear ARB I first fitted to the car had three settings which could transform the car from a nice stable high speed cruiser into a spinning top, I found it hard to believe such a small change in one component could have such an effect on a 1500kg car!

This is quite embarassing.

 

I have the whiteline front and rear, and I can't remember whether I set the front one (2 hole) on soft as I like an oversteer biased setup, or hard to play it safe! What I do know is I set the rear to medium and it handles nice.

 

Good point someone made about if you're still running a stock front bar, maybe set the rear to soft and add more if required would be safest for now :)

Haha yeah.. I will back this up lol!!

 

It seems to be quite skittish on the rear now.. Might knock it down to the softest setting for now and then get hold of coilies and a front arb and set it up as you have mentioned
