johnd-mkiv
Got the joyful job of swapping diffs and shafts on my supra, ive read that some can be a pain to get apart, will it be a better option to just remove the shafts complete with hubs split at the ball joints and swap them over that way or do the shafts generally pop out? thanks
TheTurtleshead
Remove the entire shaft and UJ Assembly from the car, they come out easy. Remove the nut and they might just come out with a big of wiggling. If not see if you can get a puller over the hub and press on the centre's to get them out, If you don't have a puller a gentle tapping should do the job. There's a dimple in the middle of the end of the shaft that a drift locates into nicely. You'll need a big torque wrench to do them up again, (289NM/213ftlbs I think!). The one on the driver's side is a Left Handed thread also, but if you're changing the shorter passenger for a big case shaft, the you shouldn't need to touch the driver's.
