My iPods frozen :(

Oh dear, this was the first sign that my ipod was fecked. Not to worry you, lol. I had the same thing happen a few times and it completely deleted all my songs, etc. Try not to be too annoyed if when you get it working, yours songs aren't there. Luckily mine was still under warranty and i got it sent off and replaced with a brand new one within 2 weeks, if that, so i was chuffed.

If you have the the old ones 1st-3rd gen then you need to hold down menu and the play/pause button for about ten seconds.

If you have the 4th gen (like me) you need to hold down menu and select for, again, ten seconds. When you do this, the apple logo should appear. It does a little reset thing with a scroll bar. Oh and if i remember correctly, it needs to be connected to the charger when you do this... TBH it was all a bit hit and miss with mine trying different combos, but this is the one that worked. Good luck and i hope it's nothing more than a little freeze!

p.s. Try restarting without the charger first. If none of this works, you can get a download from the apple website, it's a freebie, an updater. This will restore your ipod and i'm sure this does actually delete all your songs aswell. Stupid I know. But if it starts to freeze regularly, you might have to look into sending it back to apple. They don't even bother to atempt fixing them, they just replace it if it's under warranty.

Oh and another thing, if it is still under warranty, it will be void if you attempt to fix it yourself or if there are signs of the unit being tampered with.

WOW Cheers mate.

25 minutes later after holding on the phone to apple/techie support and I'm none the wiser!

2 minutes and my fav internet forum family and I get a great responce like that!

Thanks Dude

Its a dead ipod. I'm in warranty, so looks like a new unit.

No amount of press/hold down buttons in any combination works :(

Cheers for the info.

I'll try again tonight, then its off to the shops :)

Well TBH I was delighted when I found out that i was getting a new unit. It was a christmas pressie from chilli and i was a bit annoyed when it broke. It had a few scratches, etc so when they sent me my brand new one i got some of the silicone covers and kept it sparkly. Still looks good. Don't be worried about sending it back, everything is so quick! They send you an empty box by UPS, you put just the unit back in the box with the foam, send it back and it goes from there, they even give you a new tracking number so you know when it's going to arrive. Good luck with it all and enjoy your new unit - i found some new features on mine, they had updated the software since i got it first time around! BONUS!

I bought the gf an ipod mini and it never worked right, batteries would only last a couple hours even if not being used, eventually it completey went dead. Went to the Apple service centre (sub-contracted company) here and they were shockingly bad, had to cue for an hour and got some idiot who was very unhelpful. Everyone else there also seemed to have ipods with them, so seems there must be some inherant problem.

I've just bought a Mac Mini and having problems with that also, it keeps crashing every 5 minutes, tried wiping HD and reinstalling OS about 10 times and still no better, so must be a hardware problem. Looks like I'm going to have to take that back to to get sorted also :swear:

I've always been very impressed with Apple in the past, but the last 2 products I've bought have been far from satifactory. Looks like their QA/QC and customer service centres are not keeping up with their product development, which is a real shame.

We tried to use a third party apple agent to get the ipod replaced, they were literally hopeless!

Just do it yourself, think you can register it for service here http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/ and then that will start the whole process off, you will get the empty packaging by ups in a few days... it comes with instructions.

remember not to send back accessories, you wont get them back...
