Volk GTC Polished Rim

Jellybean

Recommended Posts

Hey

I got some curb rash, was thinking of getting the lip of the rim polished over the winter and the curb rash fixed.

I dropped out to a Local Wheel Repair place today for a quote and he quoted me 600 euro to Take the wheel apart and polish the Rim.

I nearly feel over, the centers are fine and no paint required!

Was thinking, of splitting the rim myself for him to refurb.

Is it a big task?

  1. What Torque do you redo the nuts to?
  2. Anybody have a guide line price to for this work, polished the lip and curb rash?

For example about taking apart a set of wheels and re assemble according manufacturers specification, a couple of weeks ago i did a set of manaray racing wheels, took me about 50hours to get to this stage of finish, loctite was used on every single bolt as well all in all its a time consuming job but worth it IMO.

Thanks! And Thanks for the thread , exactly what I need :)

My approach is

  • Dremel CONE shaped Aluminum Oxide Grinding Stone for the curb rash
  • Sand paper 400 grit, 1500 grit and 2000 grit
  • Steel Wool - SUPER fine grit
  • Aluminum wheel polish - Autosol
  • Microfiber cloth

Just 3 Q's :)

  1. What is the reasoning behind wet versus dry sanding?
  2. The GTC wheel, do you just bolt them back up or do you need to use some form of sealant around the rim?
  3. What torque settings did you use?
