Hey guys I have been looking into turboing my NA but a friend told me there are significant differences between the GE and GTE engines so I thought I would ask if anyone knew what they are.

Thanks for any help

GTE has more oil ways, I know that much. Think there are a few.more too but not sure off the top of my head! It's been covered on here before though so have a search :)

Different pistons - different compression ratio - different ignition system - different oil delivery - different intake - less turbos.

The list is rather large.

You can still fit a turbo though, just don't follow the GTE guides on doing so, you're looking for N/A-T :)

Yes the turbo version of the engine has recesses in the top of the pistons to reduce the compression ratio . . .

That's why you have to be careful when turbocharging the N/A engine, as it has quite a high compression ratio.

Another issue is that the W58 gearbox is pretty much on its reliable power limit already.

It's quite a lot of work to do it properly . . . which is why many people just swap the engine for the 2JZ-GTE and all it's other bits.

However, lots of people have successfully put a turbo on the 2JZ-GE . . . plenty of write ups on here and other websites

Depends whether he just wants to bolt on a turbocharger . . .

(the vast majority of people aren't really up to doing a complete engine rebuild, let alone doing modifications to the block)

thanks a lot for your help guys i didn't think there would be so many differences. love some of the comments.

I'll probably end up converting it to GTE there's need to put excess strain on the GE and risk unreliability when there are other alternatives.

again thanks for the help.
