Weird power drain

Evening all, hope someone can help.

This started this evening on the way home.

Basically every time I brake (gentle braking in town) all my electrics briefly cut out, my stereo, gauges and all lights.

This also happens when I turn the windscreen demister on.

It's driving and idling fine, no bulbs are out, and the battery has loads of life left.

Any ideas?

Doesn't sound like a short . . . just a bad earth connection.

Anything you're turning on (and therefore taking current from the battery) is clearly highlighting the resistance in your earth connection and dropping the voltage seen by the car's electrics.

As had been said, you really need a Multimeter to see what's going on . . . but otherwise I'd suggest you undo ALL the earth straps between the engine and the chassis (at both ends) and give them a good clean with emery paper and where they connect. Same goes for the battery connections. That will almost certainly fix it.
