hodge
How much play is acceptable on the centre shaft of a boost logic t-61 Depends on the direction of play. It's the in/out play to be concerned about. Hold the centre shaft and pull it and see how much play there is there. You don't want anymore than a couple of mm each way, I have thought. RobAce
What about up and down play
Iky
What about up and down play Usually it's 1-2mm up/down and zero in/out
Swampy442
Also depends if its a dbb or not, radial (side to side) can be up to 2mm but as Hodge said axial (in and out) is the one to watch for.
hodge
A lot of the side to dude movement gets taken up when it's filled oil.
Ian C
I didn't think any radial play was allowed? The clearances between vanes and housing are miniscule, 2mm is many times more than that? The slightest bit of play and it starts grinding the vanes down on the housing, venting oil as the seals get ovalled out, and oscillating horribly. They wouldn't grind that shaft nut per individual turbo if you could let it wang around 2mm in any direction
Swampy442
But when you have oil pressure and its spinning there won't be any radial play, providing the balance is good.
