Guest Roger NE
Just preparing my 2JZ-GE to install in my Mk 3 . . . and I've come across a strange cable I can't identify ! It's a cable with 2 wires (white-black and green-black) that splits off the loom near the Alternator It goes to a 2-pin connector that plugs into a strange black plastic thing (that came with the engine) What on earth is this, and where does it go? (searched the circuit diagrams, but no luck) I wondered if it was a temperature sensor, but it obviously doesn't go near the exhaust, as it's only plastic! Hope somebody can help . . . (if nobody can tell from my description, I'll take a photo and post it) Edited November 20, 2013 by Roger NE (see edit history)
Iky
is it this? - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TOYOTA-SUPRA-3-0-I-BI-TURBO-1993-TO-2002-AIR-TEMPERATURE-SENSOR-55728-/171130811535?_trksid=p2054897.l4275
Scooter
I think it is the airbox/air intake temp probe?
Guest Roger NE
Yes that's it ! (in the eBay photo) - thanks chaps So where exactly does it push in? I have the stock plastic piping to the throttle body . . . but maybe it goes into a hole in the air filter box? If so, whereabouts . . before or after the filter element? (I'm retaining my 7M Filter box, so will need to drill a hole) Edited November 20, 2013 by Roger NE (see edit history)
Ian C
Probably doesn't matter really, the air temps will be pretty much the same anywhere along the intake
Iky
It goes into a hole on the side of the stock NA airbox. I think it's after the filter but as Ian says, temps will be similar all the way along it.
LOGIE
Off topic here. Are you doing a write up on your build? Im a former mkiii man and still love them. I had both 7M-GE & 7M-GTE both manual.
Guest Roger NE
Probably doesn't matter really, the air temps will be pretty much the same anywhere along the intake Must admit, I was thinking the same thing . . . Yes I'll be doing a full write-up, as I've never found a full Step-by-Step guide of exactly what to do, just a lot of half-finished incomplete notes. I'll be listing all the various parts you need to get hold of to fit a 2LZ in a Mk3, to make everything work properly (Aircon, ABS, PPS, Gauges, etc) And most of all, a full wire-by wire list of what you need to connect up to make it all work, including some clever tricks of redeploying un-needed wires in the looms to supply different signals the MA70 requires. (that's all taken me dozens of hours to work out - and why some people spend £700 on a special conversion Loom to make it all work!)

Silly money. I look forward to your write up mate. Best of luck.
Axl
Looking forward to reading the write up on this I'm an ex mk III owner still have a massive soft spot for these cars
Guest Roger NE
Thanks guys ! Well I too obviously love the Mk3, and with no disrespect to the Mk4, but it seems to me that the build-quality was much better . . . things seem to last forever on them (but then again, it was a much more expensive car) But the one thing Toyota DIDN'T get right was the 7M Engine . . although it was very powerful and advanced for it's time, it's hopelessly unreliable (repeated Head Gasket and Big End failures). However the 2JZ is such a reliable engine, and SO similar externally that it's such an obvious transplant (and quite simple to do in N/A form, as the engines are almost identical externally, and use the same gearbox) £700 on a loom!! Yes - $1000 from the USA for a plug-and-play 2JZ into MA70 Transplant Loom, plus carriage, and an extra $300 if you don't send them your old loom. I've also known people doing this transplant take the car to a specialist garage to sort out all the electrics . . . and can't imagine they'd charge much less ! LOGIE
A bit on/off topic but where is the airprobe sensor on the TT? It doesnt seem to be in the airbox like the NA. im asking because I have the same prob as op whilst doing my TT transplant.
