Guest wb4oss
My 1995 Supra TT has been very reliable, but last week on two occasions I experienced a sudden shutdown of the engine; it was just like I turned the ignition key off. The first time I was at a stop light and the second time driving down the road at about 20 mph when it occurred. I was able to immediately crank the engine, but it would not start for 1-5 minutes. Then it started up and ran fine again. Has anyone experienced this problem? Any ideas as to why it would happen?
Fizzy T
I'd check all the simple things first, check the battery connections incase they are loose, Check the coilpack connections too. I'm sure others will know of more reasons why this could occur.
Big Supes
Do you have an aftermarket alarm/immobiliser installed?
Iky
Sounds very much like the Idle control valve needs cleaning. Mine cut out without any sort of warning at junctions, Was fine after I cleaned the IACV. Do a search, there is a guide on how to dismantle and clean. Big Supes
Doubt its the idle control valve if its cutting out under power.

SPG
have you had any problems at WOT? Could be the Coil Packs breaking down

Guest wb4oss
Do you have an aftermarket alarm/immobiliser installed? Everything is stock
Guest wb4oss
The engine has been cool when it happened; first time about a mile driven and 2nd time about 0.2 miles. I thought it would sputter if it was the fuel pump, but it was like I turned the ignition off.
Big Supes
I'm not yet familiar with the Supra, but maybe check for ecu fault codes. Faulty engine temp sensor could be kicking the ecu into safety/get you home mode. Does the engine rpm lower from around 1200 to 950 on idle once its warm? Guest wb4oss
When it died idling at the red light, I suspected that problem, but the next day it died driving down the road under power. Can anyone tell me if the security system diables the ignition or the fuel pump? I'm wondering if this might have something to do with it, although no other indication of a security problem. Trying to undertand why I can't restart it for 1-5 minutes after it dies in this situation.
Guest wb4oss
The car has been scanned in a reliable shop and nothing was found; they also drove it about 20 miles w/o incident. They let it run for various periods of time at the shop over the last week and it never died. The electrical connections have also been checked w/o finding anything. Marcus GTE
Is the metal clamp that holds the battery in loose? Mine came undone and shorted the battery when it came in contact briefly. Just a thought
Guest suprageek
My old N/A used to do this only going downhill though, cut out and I had to turn the key to fire it up again, never did find out what caused it As the car was sold and the new owner informed of the problem
