mclarenross
So I've lost the locking wheel nut on my supra and I've just bought some new alloys and I'm desperate to fit them. Anyone know of a clever way to get them off? I've tried those laser removal things from halfords, but they didn't work. Is there any other way to get them off?? Tricks of the trade ... please pm if you don't want to broadcast to the world the answer...
naybad
If you can get a 12 point socket that is smaller than the locking nut just hammer it on this works most of the time but make sure you get the socket on as far as you can. Iky
What type of locking nuts are they? If they are the ones with a spinning collar then it's going to be a bitch of a job. Photos please....
listy
New alloys at this time of year? Madness I say, MADNESS!!!
mattdavies
if they are Mcguard and you have the original box they can send you a new key to fit them
safcdixon
Weld a nut onto the centres thats what i did on my bro in laws motor a few years back, or as above whack a nut over the top, if they are the spinning collar type then use a small screwdriver/chisel to break off the collar first
Benjy
Buy the proper nut removal tool. Most garages should have one but don't be suprised if it costs £200!
mclarenross
Its one of these types.... it has 8 raised bars around it, I've tried ordering other similar ones off Ebay, but non fit... I'm not confident welding, want to try all other options before getting the welder out and bodging it...
Iky
I would find a 1/2" drive socket just a tad smaller to smack over it. That's an easy one. to undo. you might need to grid down the outside to get it to fit into the bore.

I discovered (for me) the trick to the laser reverse screw types is to have them at a slight angle. They wont catch if you screw them dead on. Then use a small strong bar carefully. Mugello
I just got a 12 sided socket that was slightly smaller and hammered it on. Worked a treat. However as above you can also weld a socket onto the nut

Guest bigggie25
Last resort!! We do weld on 19mm hex nut as a last resort at very high amperage.!!!works always. just try not to damage the paint on your wheels. Irwin's are ok but not always up to the job!!! trebor69
I lost mine a while ago and just hammered a socket over the top and removed them ...all 4 , same socket......just make sure your other 4 wheel nuts are tight which will ease the pressure on the locking one ......simples.
