Hi guys I recently bought my supra na 1995 with 50k on clock, now i your knowledge and help,

i have a high idle, when the is warm it idles at 1000 to 1100 and when i turn my steering wheel idle jumps to 1200 rmp not sure why this is happening and also i get noise from steering pump when i turn the wheels this could be as little as 45 degree trun.

I know this could be related to the ICV maybe needs cleaning but the steering pump shouldnt be doing this to the engine?

Also ever 10 to 20 second i can feel occasional like sort of mini juder or or little knock from the engine which i think possibly plug? This is on just idle , best describe as tiny knock as some one kicked a tyre and you can feelmini shake( engine virbration) hope this helps

all info would be apreciated gents!

Thank you

Dmitry

Might be a combination of a few things-

ICV might need cleaning, I would do it anyway as a matter of service. There is guide on here.

The revs usually rise when steering is turned. This is normal operation. Thats what the little valve does that's attached between the pump and inlet manifold.

Filter at bottom of power steering reservoir needs cleaning.- remove it and clean with solvent.

Fluid should be bright cherry red with no micro bubbles in it. If its got bubbles then there is an air leak. Check the little o-ring on the feed to the pump. Cost about £3 from Toyota. if it's not bright red then change it.

there is a link about how to bleed it through in the faq section. http://mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread....p-the-PAS-pump

Also there is a way to flush it through fully. I did this when I changed the fluid and it help avoid trapped air. But, there is one thing that is usually overlooked- First thing i'd do is remove the little solenoid on the rack, driver side to clean the little filter inside it. My car had only done a genuine 60k miles and it was almost blocked with crap.

Details are here - http://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls40...ing-bible.html This made a big difference to my Supra. The way it stiffens up now at the correct speed is great.

Next thing is to clean the filter at the bottom of the reservoir, take it off the car and do it properly with brake cleaner/petrol etc. Fit it back on.

Now you can start to flush the system through with brand new Dexron iii Halfords do a big 5L bottle of comma ATF DX iii for not a lot of money. It's in a big red tub.

Theres a guide here - http://soarercentral.com/sc-forum/messages/37/119.html

Basically, you just tape half a 2L coke bottle (any clear drink bottle) upside down around the top of the reservoir. (just fits perfectly inside)

Then remove the smaller hose on the side of it. Block the metal stub on the reservoir of the pipe you just took off so fluid doesn't leak out.

Then attach a longer rubber pipe to the pipe you just removed so you can divert it to a bucket to drain the filthy fluid out.

Use sh1t loads of masking tape around the bottle neck to secure it to the reservoir to avoid it tippling over and fill it up to about half way up the coke bottle.

Get someone else to start the car whilst you keep an eye on the fluid and once you have lovely cherry red flowing out the pipe, your done! Just be careful you don't let it get too low, it will go down pretty fast in a few seconds.

I hope that lot make sense. My apologies if you already know this.

Iky.

  • 2 weeks later...

Ok gents, now i have replaced spark plugs, dizzy cap and arm, also cleaned idle speed control valve which is on the left hand side if you face your car engine attached to throtle body. I also reset ecu.

my idle is still high at 1000-1200 when its warmed up, no missfire now as plugs were changed to correct type.

when i drive i can set off and car will drive it self in first gear at 1200 or 1100 rpm with out me touching gas pedal, so could you sugest anything else for me to look at?

Vaccum pipes and which one? And where..

also bulb warning light comes on in the car on dash so not sure if these two related. My right main light is slightly brighter then my right ... could it be bulb on the way out?? And can some one tell me what is PCB?

Thanks guys
