DNA Project Daywalker - Pro ET Drag Supra

Thought it was about time to get this up for all to see.

In June this year I decided to go all out and build a Pro ET drag supra for 2014.

I had currently been running 11 second quarter miles @ Shakespeare raceway in my current road supra, running 600hp on 550cc injectors, and AEM FIC piggy back ecu, FPR, and an HKS T04R turbo kit, with a semi built Autobox with Precision industries 3600 Hi stall Torque Converter.

It had got to the stage where I never used the car on the road anymore and even when I did it was pretty horrible to drive, with the hi stall and the 27inch micky Thomson drag radials, so I decided it was time to make it purely a drag car.

I could have quite happily got a trailer and continued as it was but I decided if I was going to do it I was going to go all out and purchased this:

The day it was delivered was the day I had just moved in to my new house in a very quiet prestigious village so when the neighbours saw this thing turn up they looked very worried.

Luckily the next day I had the whole village over for a BBQ and surprisingly where all very intrigued by it all.

Although it looked relatively complete it still requires bundles of work to get it anywhere near ready to race.

With no dash, windscreen and the doors requiring fitment attention there was a lot to do.

Firstly I modified some of the parts that came with it and managed to get the dash fitted and painted. And then added a little bit of flare by adding the rubber edging strips.

Once the dash was in I was able to get the windscreen put in.

I wanted to get one made of Perspex but it was a going to be a real faff getting it right so opted for the standard screen, and actually managed to get my current supra insurance to replace the screen on the current supra and accidently have the new screen fitted onto the drag car.

Next was to get the engine out the current supra and get it in the drag chassis.

For an idea of fitment I then hung the engine in place to see what would be required to fit it.

Having been running a piggyback ecu setup with the 550cc injectors I thought it was best to do things properly as In the long run I will be upgrading the turbo. So I purchased a set of ANSU 1000cc injectors, fuel rail, Fuelab FPR and all the fittings from Whifbitz and fitted them to the 2jz.

I also managed to get hold of a new engine harness with a Syvecs plug already wired in, so that was fitted ready for going the Syvecs s6 route, which will be the next big thing to buy in the new year.

The chassis came with engine mounting plates that apparently would fit directly, but of course that was not the case, and they were completely useless. So I was going to have to fabricate engine mounts from scratch.

Using the original upper mounts attached the engine I then had solid mounts made of cold drawn steel and tubular steel legs made to allow the steel mount to be welded to to the legs when the engine was lined up and in place correctly. Taking a bit of a risk in hoping all would be ok when it was all tacked in place, surprisingly the engine came out with no issues and after replacing the engine again it slotted straight back in to where it need to be.

Next step is to strip the engine bay harness and body harness from the old supra and start creating a new harness.

Also need to modify the chassis to accommodate the gearbox mount. I want to upgrade to a full boost logic box eventually so want to use as many standard mounting parts as possible.

After that I need to measure up the prop and have a new one made up, no idea where im going to get it done, but ill sort that when I get to it.

Thanks Logie, the amount of money iv lost going from one to the other i dont want to think about, but i suppose that's part of the fun.

the nice thing about this project is im in no rush to get it done, just a target for march next year so plenty of time.

now the engines in im happy with the progress

Just ordered a new fan belt so want to get the alternator, power steering pump and aircon pump refitted so i can find a way of running without the air con pump and the power steering pump.

Im thinking i might just have to live with running them both even though they are not in use

607bhp and 560LBFT

very nice,

get a pair of drag slicks on the back and you'll be knocking on the door of 10s

Great work mate. Im surprised this hasn't been moved to projects yet. Its different from the norm.

Thanks Logie,

Theres plenty more work to be done that will be posted up so hopefully it will be moved eventually to project cars

Been a while since my last update,

I was made redundant at the beginning of December last year so had to put everything on hold and thought id have to sell the project but thankfully not.

Since then iv made a bit of head way.

The engine loome has been sent off to Lyndon to be developed along with an EMU ecu who are now sponsoring the build. More on this to follow.

The radiator and intercooler have been mounted and plumed in as guidance at this point so I can get the proper pipe work made up.

The fitment was somewhat challenging considering it was supposed to have the fuel cell and pump mounted in front of the engine, I didn't quite fancy that idea so have opted to put it in the back.

Been a while since the last update,

been busy with work and other commitments but things have moved on with the drag car.

Having several dealings with the guys at custom chrome they gave me a load of bits to mock up the exhaust, so i went for it on that front and cut up the original downpipe and had a play having the exhaust straight out the side, in 3".

I then had to get some 2"5 inch and make up the waist gate pipe, i decided to take this up into the 3" thinking it would be easy but it wasn't, any who perseverance and lots of screaming later i managed to get it all fitted.
