Rich.2211
This is a problem I've had since I bought the car but kind of forgot about it as I leave the mirrors out. Now though I really want to get it sorted in a quest to make the car 100% "niggle free". Basically when I press the button to fold the mirrors in or out sometimes one of the mirrors will only move half way out or even not at all. This happens most of the time but not all the time and can happen on either mirror. I'm guessing it's worn cogs or something like that? How can I fix them or is it new mirrors time? Guest BradD
Can you actually hear the motors turning when the wing mirror stops moving? Could possibly be the wires running into the door for the mirrors are broken?
mellonman
Mine sometimes go all the way the wrong way, god knows why have to do the switch a couple of times to get them back where they need to be
Rich.2211
Motors are definitely working so it's not a case of loose wires. That's what made me think something is worn?
berg
I have the exact fault with my drivers side mirror and happens only when opening the mirrors out, it will very occasionally stop half way I have to do it again and i apply a little pressure as it starts moving, it then goes all the way
Rich.2211
Sounds like we're having the same issues Berg. Any ideas of the resolution?
Fly
Rich , mine do the same in and out it's really quite annoying.
Rich.2211
Hmm this is starting to look like a common problem. I really hope I don't have to buy another set of mirrors to cure this.
Rob W
Yep my passenger side does this, hear the motor going but stops halfway round.
BK1
Yep, same here, but I never retract them. I'd rather someone caught the mirror squeezing past the car than scratch the door ( coat zippers and the like )
Supradoopa
Had this problem with my Supe, was water getting into the clips. Took the door cards off disconnected the wiring dried it out and hey presto all sorted

Fly
I was thinking of just getting some carbon mirrors from whifbitz and having them in he fixed position
Rich.2211
So... has anyone managed to fix this?
Rob W
No, tried it the other day when I was bored. Took it all apart to try and pull the motor to clean/look at it but I was stopped by one small screw. Sounds silly I know but tried to unscrew it and just ripped the head off. If I would of manged to get this small cover off I reckon you could of spit the two halfs of the motor. While it was apart as far as I could go, wd40'd it up but no difference. Must be the cogs have gone or something like that, motor making a noise but still got nothing.

That is if they're available separately from Toyota. I keep meaning to pluck up the courage to disassemble mine but, like you say, I think it will be a worn cog so I won't be able to fix it without new parts anyway. Rob W
It isn't difficult. It's one whole unit tho so you've got the motor then the actual outer wing mirror. It just takes some time getting it out the shell, loads of screws and just taking the wires out of the connector to then pull through. Pretty much that is it mate. I'll have to see if the motors are available separately then. Failing that I'll have to hope a set of fully functioning electric folding mirrors pop up in A202 black
Rob W
Just to update this. Seems like giving it a blast out with WD40 did do the trick, guessing it just took its time to do its magic and clean it up. Mirrors working fine now

Rob W
Nah mate, its hooked on the bottom part iirc. So you have to unclip the top then pull it down to unclip the bottom, if that makes sense. If you tilt the glass and have a look behind it you will see what I mean. Other then that its just screws and unclipping the wires out of the connector.
