Tommyd16
Is it possible to to change the auto box to a six speed manual on tt? If so what's involved. I guess it's more than just a transmission swap?
Kaan W
Alot of people downgrade to the manual, it costs around 6k for the complete conversion inc fitting and a decent clutch. Have a search.
Josh42
I've done a 5 speed swap on my auto sup. it was by no means a downgrade and has brought the car to life. Swap is similar to that of a 6 speed and involved: Fitting of master cylinder Fitting of slave cylinder Fitting of manual pedals Fitting of manual tachometer Fitting of manual flywheel Fitting of manual transmission Fitting of clutch Fitting of manual diff(not a necessity) Fitting of manual prop Fitting manual transmission tunnel cover Wiring the inhibitor switch Wiring of the reverse lights And I believe the 6speeds require you to change the driveshafts if changing the diff to a 6spd manual
Abz
Don't think that has ever been attempted before!!
Guest Roger NE
Generally speaking, I would have thought it better to sell the Automatic Supra and buy a Manual one ! (as it's quite a lot of work, and quite expensive . . . yet not really increasing the value of the car)

If you fit a 6speed, you will 100% increase the value of the car. To give you some perspective I hired a ramp and did the conversion in 8 hours between 3 of us-none of us mechanics by trade. Guest Roger NE
If you fit a 6speed, you will 100% increase the value of the car So are you saying that if a stock TT Automatic is worth £8k, a similar condition Manual would be worth £16k? That doesn't seem to be born out from Ads I've seen . . . For all that I would NEVER buy an Automatic car, there are clearly a lot of people who prefer them! I agree that swapping the transmissions doesn't require a lot of skill . . . just a lot of work . . . and all the parts to do it seem very expensive And you have to remember that a lot of people don't even change their own Brake Pads ! So for those who would have to pay a garage to convert an Auto to a Manual, it would cost a fortune That's why I suggested it might be better to buy a Manual car in the first place Edited October 22, 2013 by Roger NE (see edit history)
Josh42
I didn't say that, I said it would increase the value of the car-similar spec cars go for £7-8 in comparison to £5k for a TT auto. Ultimately, you will never see a return on mods but in this case you would see an increase in the cars value.
straightsix
Not enough of a return to justify the expense in my opinion but each to their own
Tommyd16
Putting a six speed manual box would definatly increase the price of an tt aerotop!
Guest Roger NE
I didn't say that Actually you did ! You said If you fit a 6speed, you will 100% increase the value of the car That means you would DOUBLE its value - that's what I was querying, as I don't believe it's true! Josh42
Actually you did ! You said That means you would DOUBLE its value - that's what I was querying, as I don't believe it's true! I suggest you read it again, I said it would 100% increase the value of the vehicle. I did not say it would increase the value by 100%. It is a certain it would increase the value. Now please stop being so god damn pedantic and jumping down everyone's throats on threads.
chris0132
Josh is right, Everyone knows that a manual tt is worth a few grand more than an auto tt of the same spec, otherwise we'd all buy manuals rather than convert autos
Big Supes
Whilst looking for a new Supra, I found 6sp Jspec TT's that were a grade below mine were priced up to 2k more than my UK spec auto. I have every intention to upgrade to a manual 6sp as, it's my preference, and it'll increase the value of the car.
Guest Roger NE
I don't dispute that doing a Manual conversion would increase the value of an Automatic Supra . . . hey I hate Autos ! I was just saying that the cost of doing it might not be recouped, especially if you couldn't do all the work yourself . . . and that's why I suggested it would be probably be sensible to look for a Manual car in the first place. And I wasn't meaning to be pedantic Josh! Just saying I don't believe that it would increase the value by 100%, which is what I thought you were trying to suggest. Chris Bailey
A complete 6spd conversion has got to be around £4k mark I would have thought! £6k seems a little steep.
Lbm
I am going to award Roger 2 pedant points. If he plays his cards right I'll 100% increase those 2 points to 3 points by 50%.
