Tommyd16
Hi I'm a new member and currently saving for a supra. Looking to buy in the new year. I obviously want a twin turbo and preferably an aerotop (if aerotops are available in tt?) budget of hopefully around £8k I have been reading up on them for a while. I preferably would like a manual but wouldn't say no to an auto, so I was just wandering what the auto box is like to live with - is it a tip tropic? Etc I have read that manual aerotops don't exist in tt? I know they are pretty bullet proof but is there anything to keep an eye out for? And now the question I guess everyone asks!.... Actual real life mpg? Haha I'm not fussed about the mpg in all honesty - just curious And finally I'm a big fan of forums and owners clubs. I always join them and try to buy from fellow enthusiasts - even my dads transit haha so if anyone is thinking of selling a twin turbo in the new year let me know Thanks Tommy

Tayfun.tugra
hi tommy, I have a tt auto and use the car around 3/4 times a week. They are really easy to drive, smooth changes and enough low down torque for any overtaking manoeuvres on public roads. Parking with an auto is controllable. MPG wise, I don't look or calculate I just drive and fill the tank when it reaches a quarter. I would estimate around 20 MPG in town and 30 MPG going a distance at near 60MPH. If I was to buy another supra my main interest would be corrosion.
Tommyd16
Thanks for the replies. Can you change down manually in the auto has it got a kick down sort of style - which my old 5 series auto had. Also are imports any good. I know there are some differences between nap and uk cars. I would ideally like a manual uk car but are the imports just as good?
mellonman
i love the supra auto box ,you can change manually if you want it has 4 speed and all gears have engine breaking but 4th really. imports are great but have larger ceramic turbos which dont handle as much boost as the uk counter part but flow better imo.uk cars will be cheaper on insurance always something to consider if you are going to keep it for a long time, but uk cars tend to have more rust .uk cars seem to have more options on the cooling side of things with diff and bonnet scoops

The imports are certainly very good As an aside, they never made an aerotop UK spec. You would be choosing either a UK TT6 or an Aerotop TT Auto import if those are the 2 choices you are interested in. Keep in mind that the UK specs ended in 1996 and have been in the UK the whole time, whereas imports were made until 2002, with a lot of them still coming from Japan nice and fresh. Tommyd16
That's me pretty sold then. Don't really mind what I get. Auto or manual. Has to be tt though. Arnt the jap cars less powerful though or are all the imports pretty much sorted. Looking for one around the 380-400bhp mark (uk model with BPU) - is that correct? Stock UK or J-spec TT's are the same power, the turbo's are different though as UK have steel blades and at BPU can run higher boost up to about 1.4 bar, J-spec are ceramic so are limited to about 1.2 bar for longevity. Your figure of 380-400 bhp is about right for a BPU car whether its UK or J-spec BPU totally transforms the car
Tommyd16
Cool. Right then I don't mind what I get then as long as I get a nice TT in good nic. Would preferably get one BPU already as I'm restoring an old rover p6 so can't really afford to doing much playing around with a supra at the same lol
