C_Strike
Hey guys. Im getting some strange droning noises from under the bonnet when I rotate the steering wheel, seems to be louder the farther I turn, no notable difference to the ease of rotating the wheel at the moment. Can I sagely assume it's the power steering pump? How much are those going for these days? Is it an easy job? I can get a video if required many thanks in advance
listy
Check the fluid level first. It may just be a little low.

Thorin
Yep check the fluid level, it only needs to be a bit below the line for it to start making noises. Seem to be seeing a few leaks with the age of the cars now.
C_Strike
looks to be a week bit low lol. (first time uploading a pic from phone to forum so not sure it'l work properly)
Thorin
Top it up and keep an eye on it, but I'd say you've probably got a leak somewhere sadly.
C_Strike
If so, what does that entail? Will I need to sell my past kidney? Or is it a relatively simple system?
Camry5Sgte
As said, check fluid level. Check the feed and return hoses on the reservoir for dry rotting and cracks as that is common with the heat. Lastly, you can pull out the reservoir and clean out the filter screen inside with a bit of brake cleaner.

Nic
Also bleed the system to get rid of any air that may be trapped, see service manual attached.Steering.pdf
Guest MKSupraHero
Mine always started sounding like a space ship landing and the steering got tight when turning way ahead of the pump going out...
Chris Wilson
I rebuild PAS pumps that aren't too far gone already. If you catch them early a refurb isn't too expensive. a new pump is about £330 plus VAT. Thanks dnk
