I'm guessing you have one of the newer 360s? I have the elite black jaffa cake (or whatever it's called) console and it sounds like a hovercraft. It's WAY louder than the original PS3 (I have 3) and uncomparably louder to the slim (2nd gen, I only have 1 of those).

I literally need to up the volume when I use the xbox to watch a flick.

Mine is the 60gb, 4th gen model (I think). The George Foreman PS3 complete annihilates the 360 in a fan sound-off. I don't watch DVD's on my 360 because, although it's quieter, it doesn't upscale as well as the PS3. Plus, the 360 is in my man cave.

The Red Ring of Death was a common issue with 360s, right from launch. I believe it was caused by a combination of very poor heat management and lead free solder. The yellow light of death was more of an age related issue, but again down to poor solder. I had to send my Xbox back within 6 months to be repaired, my original PS3 is still going strong, though my early release 60gb (the PS1 + PS2 compatible one) has just had to go in for the YLOD. It is 5 years plus old though :)

Yeah, the engineers screwed up with the heat management, no question. I had friends who had to send theirs back for repair. I've had a repair and upgrade kit in my cupboard for the last 5 years just in case. I haven't thrown it out as I know the 360 will pack up then. :D

There's still plenty of fun to be had with a dead xbox

Sony can't be trusted to protect users sensitive billing information, that's for sure. The PS4 is also being built in China by students who are forced to work for free. Microsoft abandoned this manufacturer after they used them for the 360.

Cool. But don't forget when using the xbox ones media services the kinnect will detect the amount of people in the in the room and you will get charged for an extra licence if there to many people..

I read something about that regarding the Kinect on the 360 and it carried no weight. Do you have a link confirming this for the Xbox One?

Games have to come out to buy a console

I am not saying I am buying one or the other, but I remember with the PS3 waiting for years for GT that was originally a release title

I am worried that not many people are getting to see either system running obviously on it's own merit yet

Watchdogs has been delayed for "Polish" which usually means something fundamental is wrong with the game that needs to be sorted, being as ambitious as it looks i'm not surprised. The PS4 is a good bit of kit and the xbone looks interesting and with a connect being shipped with it will make for interesting games. I will be getting a ps4 though because I'm cheap.

Steambox anyone? :p
