Guest Roger NE
Best advice is to buy yourself a cheap Multimeter - essential for diagnosing all kinds of electrical problems, not only on your car! I'd suggest buying an Analogue one, as you can see changes in readings much more readily, and you also get less false readings compared to a digital display type. Then measure the voltage across the battery, and see how it changes when you run the engine, and also when you increase the revs In the meantime, turn the headlights on . . . if the Alternator is working you should notice an increase in brightness between tickover and increasing the revs to about 2000 rpm.
