Technically speaking, under car neons with red light facing to the rear and white/amber light facing to the front do actually comply with UK regulations, but nobody's bothered doing it AFAIK. Yup, you could buy kits which had a "legal" setting of red light to the rear, white to the front and amber at the sides. Sure it would look equally awful.
