Dnk
Fantastic attention to detail, must be getting close to finished now Still got to find a paint shop but i'm in no rush to do that as the original paint isn't too bad Need to sort out a new top tailgate, thought i'd found a good genuine one but the seller wanted silly money for it. Dnk
Still having trouble getting the screen sorted but now there is another issue, the passenger side heated element doesn't work. We had our first cold night yesterday and the Range was frozen over so a perfect test. The circuit is very simple with one switch, one relay which then splits into two with two inline fuses before it connects to the screen Checked the fuse and that's fine and there's power to it so my guess is the new screen is at fault Edited November 20, 2016 by Dnk (see edit history)
Chris Wilson
Gain access to both wires going to the embedded trace in the left side of the screen and check the resistance of the trace itself. It should be very low, under 5 Ohms (if it was 5 Ohms that's only a 2.6 Amp current draw at 13 volts). These things draw hefty currents, a lot more than 2.6 Amps and any poor grounds or connections with highish resistance will stop them working either at all, or properly. Knowing BL's standard of wiring and connector quality I wouldn't condemn the screen quite yet, although they aren't the most reliable of things. Chris Wilson
Hi Dunc, bear in mind only the best multi meters read accurately below a few Ohms, so take any reading below a few Ohms as "it's probably OK". You could jumper 12V direct to these wires and see if it draws current and heats up.

Dnk
Admiral want the checks done by the restoration company so i'm just organising that now, hopefully get it in next week. It looks like the screens got to come out anyway as two of the new trims aren't right and looks like the screen could actually be set off centre and too high according to the boss at the restoration company. I might give up with Admiral at this rate and get it sorted myself, its only been going on since Aug 17th, i've emailed Pilkington Glass for a price on a new screen and also getting in touch with one of their approved installers For now i've been fiddling with the head unit, i was worried that when i took the modern Pioneer cd player out i'd find all the original plugs had been cut off or butchered, happy days though as they're all still there I just need to get the original Clarion unit sent off to http://www.clarion-service.co.uk/cs/Home.html to get it fully refurbished and make it iphone mp3 compatible etc £99.99 inc vat
Dnk
Thanks to Michael i have the head unit working, more good news the amp and sub both appear to work as well I had the RR in the restoration companies workshop to inspect the windscreen to see why half of it didn't heat up and how well it had been fitted. To do this the bonnet and deck panel have to come off. There are two pegs on the RR's frame that the screen sits on along its bottom edge, one side the screen is sitting off the peg by approx 2-3mm and around 5-6mm on the other. The trims on the A posts are held down to the pillar with double side tape, the fitters haven't removed the protective film off the tape on either side. The reason the passenger side didn't heat up is because the plug they connected to the Range Rovers wiring had fell apart but they didn't notice this but i can't say i'm surpised. If your around B'ham don't use Turbo windscreens, they are a bunch of useless clowns Edited December 14, 2016 by Dnk (see edit history)
Dnk
Afraid the head unit looks like it has a fault, one minute it works the next it doesn't, checked the feeds to it and all seems as it should be. I've tried wriggling the plugs around on the back of the unit but nothing seems to affect it. Tried the other head unit i have but that doesn't do anything. Looks like i'll have to send it off to Clarion after all
Dnk
We had a nice frost this morning so i thought i'd go and do a proper test of the heated windscreen, low and behold it now works. Hopefully we can get it out in one piece so it can be re fitted properly now i know for sure this screen works as it should
SupraAyf
Dunk, this is a credit to you mate. I don't pop on the forum much these days but it makes the visit worthwhile when there are top quality projects like yours to check out :-) This reminds me of my old MY93 3.9SE in Aspen Silver; lovely car. Thanks Andrew, hopefully i'll have it finished one day Aspen Silver is a lovely colour on a classic I'm hearing rumors that LR Heritage are going to be remaking some parts no longer available such as the door cap rubbers and the rubbing strips. That would be nice if they do as i'd be replacing all mine then when it gets painted. Still unsure about fitting the genuine Brooklands kit, i have new genuine corner bumpers and was contemplating chroming the original bumpers, hmmm Edited January 10, 2017 by Dnk (see edit history)

The big bumpers. The Aspen Silver paint scheme is probably the nicest colour on any car I've owned. It was fantastic mate. Really loving your thread - now get some more pics up, lol :-)
Dnk
Sorry Andrew, not got really anything new to take photos of I've just had an email from my insurer and they now agree that Nationwide screwed up when they fitted the screen and i can go ahead and get it sorted at a place of my choosing. They'll cover all the costs including using genuine trims and pay for the investigation done by the restoration specialist They've put £100 on top as compensation for my inconvenience just under £700 in total Being cynical i hope my next premium doesn't dramatically increase Edited February 6, 2017 by Dnk (see edit history)
Chris Wilson
I'd be cynical myself, until you have the renewal quote Glad they have helped out for now though.
Dnk
Sent both head units to the Clarion service center and not that impressed so far to be honest. Poor comms from them, they've had them since the 17th Jan, i chased them up and they say one unit is beyond saving and they are looking at the other ? That was on Jan 30th Edited February 10, 2017 by Dnk (see edit history)
Dnk
Not heard anything from the Clarion service center so i just called to find out whats going on, they can't fix the other head unit either as it has damage to the PCB, they told me about the damage 10 days ago but didn't say they couldn't fix it. ffs ! What a waste of time that was, i shall give gb4x4radios a call and see if they can do repairs to circuit boards
Chris Wilson
If you can e-mail me some high res photos of the board damage I can tell you if I might be able to fix it, I have repaired some fairly poxy PCB's before now.

Chris Wilson
If they are multi layer and water has got into more than the 2 top and bottom tracks it's stuffed, but I doubt it's more than a 2 layer board. We'll see.
Dnk
Still waiting to get the head units back, not impressed now, so much for the next day return they offer on the website Just spoke to them and the person who answers the phone hasn't got a clue, going to call me back, ****ing useless !!! Dnk
Took the Range for its 3 rd mot since the re build and all good. The head units are back, i took the top covers off but without totally stripping them it's very hard to photo the pcbs, looks a lot more involved than i'd thought they'd be and can see me getting in a right mess if i started I think i'll send the one to http://www.gb4x4radios.com/ and see what they can do
Dnk
Fitted a Pioneer DEH X8700DAB in the end and it sounds very good even with the old OE speakers Also took some insurance photos to get my agreed value sorted
