supra_ufo
I was driving the car on Monday and usually always at the end of the journey check the peak boost. Usually its always 1.1 MAX but I noticed on Monday it creeped past 1.1 and looks like almost 1.3 bar! Now I know the depo racing gauges are not exactly the best out there but for weeks its been reading 1.1 max boost. I have a restrictor ring installed (iky can confirm). Should I be worried? I thought the ring stops it from going past 1.1/1.2... My turbo is a j spec rebuilt with steel internals. I do plan to buy a boost controller but probably for next summer. Iky
Could have been the cold weather. I know it does make a difference. Edit-I'm not sure if a restrictor ring would avoid this. hopefully someone more knowledgeable will confirm. kill1308
Have you checked for leaking / split vacuum hoses ?
Shane
Could have been the cold weather. I know it does make a difference. This I would think. I know when I was running a MBC rather than a EBC the outside temperature made quite a bit of difference.
mellonman
cold weather does have an affect so is probably that, remember a boost controller will only up boost not lower it, so with a boost controler you would of still had the same situation, that being said the 1.3 was probably just a spike and was not held at it for long but i would keep an eye out if i was you
supra_ufo
I thought it could of done with "cold" weather but it wasnt less than 10C on monday, I thought "cold" weather is 3/4c. I'll set the peak warning on it next time. its going to be in the garage for a month or so now as im going on hol:)

supra_ufo
Have you checked for leaking / split vacuum hoses ? wouldnt this cause a loss of boost and not overboost
Scott
If it was a spike then don't worry about it, take it for a boost at night and see what it sits steady at. I deliberately set my spike to 1.3bar and settled at 1.2bar.

Dnk
Maybe fitting a slightly smaller restrictor ring is the answer, say at 0.9 to 1.0 bar then use the bc to raise it to 1.2 or whatever you want Edited October 2, 2013 by Dnk (see edit history)
supra_ufo
I remember the ring hole being 2" and my decat pipe is 2.5"
mellonman
yes a split vac pipe could cause over boost, dependant on what vac pipe it could simply work as a bleed valve (manual boost controler) so a split vac pipe to the first tubo actuator would cause boost to rise iirc,
kill1308
wouldnt this cause a loss of boost and not overboost It could cause overboost, it's not winter yet, so I think atmospheric temperatures affecting it greatly is unlikely at this time of year. I'd say it's either just recorded a high peak then it's levelled off, or it's possibly a split hose if it's persistently hitting that figure.
