Guest andrew_baran
Hi, My name is Andrew and I own an E30 BMW 3 series. It currently has the standard 2.5 engine in it, with about 170hp. It's time for more though. I considered turbocharging the stock engine, or another BMW engine, but that idea just didn't cut it for me. By the time I bought and swapped everything I needed to, I could have something far more exciting! So I'm set on using a 2JZ, W154 and a single turbo setup. And if I can blag it - stock ECU? Here's a picture of my not a Supra! Cheers!
drift_bear
Good project mate. You don't get a w154 box, you get the R154 from the mkiii or the W58 from the mkiv. Both boxes will be useless with a single turbo conversion (depending on power levels) and you will need a new ecu for it all. HTH
Guest andrew_baran
My mistake - I did mean R154. We're not talking stupid power levels. I was specifically looking for the R154 as there is an off the shelf mount kit for the E30 I can import, which would be a very useful starting block for me with regards to working out how much space I have!! Why do you say both the boxes will be useless?

Why do you say both the boxes will be useless? R154 is a stronger 5 speed box, but the amount of power/torque you can safely put through is limited. I'm no expert in the 5 speed box's and I'm sure someone else will be here soon to explain it more for you
Scott
R154 will handle around 500lbs IIRC. That should see you nicely into a GT35r or a GTX30r (both great tubbys). I'd personally aim for the GTX30 with a cast manifold. Bolt on the R154 with supporting mods and you're good to go. Stock ECU won't be any good at all though.
