Kaan W
I switched the heater on the other night to de mist the window screen and it smelt quite strong of hot coolant/antifreeze, within seconds the whole screen misted up even worse to the point I had to pull over. This is obviously something to do with the matrix but what's causing it and do I need a new one? Cheers
The Raven
Is the carpet wet in the footwell when its on low? Sounds like the matrix mate, the one job ive always worried about, the plus side is you can send your dash to mitch and get it flocked. Someone with a sure fire test will be along soon. Dnk
Afraid its a pretty good chance your matrix needs replacing, check the passenger footwell carpet and see if its damp or even wet with coolant.
Kaan W
Cheers guys, I'll feel the carpet when I get home. There's a guide on here somewhere I'll have a read through and see what's involved
Dnk
It's easy enough to do but does look a nightmare once you have all the dash out. Can be done in a day if you follow the guide and are confident at doing the job.

Kaan W
If you dont use the car in the winter you could just bypass it, I have a bypass pipe I made up in my boot always as when they go they can really go I was thinking of taking it out all together as I took the aircon out and don't use the car in the winter. But I didn't wanna be left with a load of buttons that don't function. Bypassing them would be a good idea but I' think I'll just face the music and put a new one in to be honest mate.
