jumpbike
I've searched around but maybe I'm not wording it right, basically, can the first butterfly (stepper motor controlled one) simply be unplugged and cut off with out any dodgy running or what not. Thanks,
Tricky-Ricky
Yes I removed mine completely and welded the resulting holes up, its actually the std traction control, you can also remove the ECU too.
jumpbike
so the ecu that says throttle control on it is also no longer needed? The engines going in something else you see and it's going to be a squeeze so would like to shorten the throttle body,
Tricky-Ricky
There is no ECU that says throttle control, it will have TRAC control on it, as I said its traction control, nothing to do with the throttle, which is cable operated. you should have no problems shortening the throttle body. Scott
Unless you have VVTi.
baldy
It will affect gear shifting on an auto!
Tricky-Ricky
How does the TRAC control have any effect on an auto box? also not sure how it would influence a a VVTI motor either?
Ian C
Doesn't it use the TRAC butterly to help with gearchanges at WOT? I can't recall exactly, but I do seem to remember that the TRAC ECU does have something to do with the autobox...
Tricky-Ricky
I'm not convinced just how it would be beneficial to close or partly close the TRAC butterfly during gear changes, surly this would lead to a more jerky effect like closing the throttle during manual changes but without a de clutch effect? especially given its reputation for being rather primitive in its operation during traction control operation. baldy
The flap does shut on wot gear shifting to smooth the shift and protect the box from a high load shift, unplug the motor and go try it!manu mode will not work with it removed either
Scott
How does the TRAC control have any effect on an auto box? also not sure how it would influence a a VVTI motor either? I was meaning the "throttle control" ecu.

Especially after sampling the wonderful traction control while trying to quickly enter a busy roundabout and being momentarily stranded in front of a fast approaching truck, that was when I quickly discovered the location of the TRAC relay and binning it, shortly followed by the TRAC ECU, and later the throttle body was mullered. Gpro
I unplugged mine a few weeks ago so it stays open. I have noticed lightening speed gear changes since i done that. I just didn't realise it was because of that! Surely its a bonus!! the car feels like its just 1 gear from 0 to 100mph! you don't feel any of the gears changing its so smooth/Rapid changes

jumpbike
There is no ECU that says throttle control, it will have TRAC control on it Just for reference, it 100% says Throttle Control on the second, smaller ECU
Chris Wilson
If subjecting the auto box to sudden torque shocks above that the makers considered prudent is a "win win" situation, then out with the hacksaw The traction control butterfly does indeed operate during auto box gear shifts.
