Has anyone used this or something similar to detect knock does it actually work? I can't detect knock with my piggy back so looking in to getting this

If your using a piggyback then the stock ECU will still be doing knock detection and pulling timing etc.

yeah i know but i still want to be able to log it myself (Could i just tap in to the knock sensor wires going to the stock ecu and have an led wired in would that work?

I will be mapping the timing soon as i see the stock ecu retard then i will pull a few degrees timing but how much can i trust the stock ecu and knock sensors?

If your mapping timing you should be using knock cans, not trying to spot a blinking LED.

Considering some of the setups to come through here over the years I would say the knock detection / safety on the stock ECU is a testament to Toyota`s engineering department :D

would it be stupid to copy my friends map but retard timing by 4 degrees? to be on the safe side, i aint planning on getting every bhp i can get on a piggyback (His turbo is slightly bigger then mine and has a flown head, Everything else is the same)

Why buy an over priced piece of tat, it doesn't even say what frequency its tuned to, different capacity motors need different frequency, so I doubt its accurate, if you want a decent knock sensor setup buy Phormula KS4, but in any case if your fiddling with the timing then always use det cans, there easy enough to make.

What piggyback are you using?

Are you referring to the original Toyota 2JZ-GTE ECU that had thousands of R&D spent on it compared to a an el cheapo piggy back with no R&D on said engine :search:

would you trust the stock ecu and stock knock sensors to map to 600+ bhp?

I wouldn't regardless what people say
