Cosworthmark02
Hi, My car keeps leaking water from the header tank drain off pipe after a journey (can actually see the water coming out). The header tank when checked is then empty and the radiator runs a little bit low. I've changed the radiator cap and can't see any obvious signs of a leak from the radiator or surrounding pipe work. There's no signs of head gasket problems and have had a recent compression test which showed very good compression. On very hot days the temperature rises slightly above the centre on the temp gauge. On a recent drive I used 2ltrs on the journey out and nothing on the return journey. The radiator was replaced a few years ago. I thinking of changing the radiator to an alloy version to start with, as this cars an auto how difficult is it to fit the transmission fluid cooler? Cheers, Mark. Chris Wilson
The stock rads are more efficient than 99% of alloy ones. You may have the start of a head gasket failure. You need to have the coolant checked for exhaust gas contamination, either by an MOT 4 gas sniffer, or by using dye. I can do both types of test, but you are a fair way away.
