That_Supra_Guy
Noticed yesterday whilst routing around for a possible cause of a clunking noise that there appears to be a diff mounting bush missing (circled in red)?! Or is this correct having only one (Left) side there and I'm being a spanner? It's a manual NA: P.s I know what you're thinking, but it's just super amounts of mud from the previous owner, I've only just got round to getting a jack stand, so a full clean up underneath is in order next! Swampy442
Yeah there is certainly a diff mount missing!
Scooter
but I THINK there is only the one as standard on NA's...
listy
I'm sure someone else had this a couple of weeks ago. I'm also sure the answer was that the na's only have one.
Scooter
looking again is the rubber in the bottom part of the mount ok or split/perished
straightsix
NA's only have one diff mount. Check the rubber bushings in your existing diff mounts but clunking could be suspension related
That_Supra_Guy
Cheers guys, taken a weight off my mind there!
That_Supra_Guy
looking again is the rubber in the bottom part of the mount ok or split/perished Looked alright from memory, seemed like manufactured cut-outs in the rubber as opposed to a split, I usually notice things like that all too often
Swampy442
NAs only have 1 dff mount? Thats the most chronic case of penny pinching Ive ever seen.

Dan_Q
I've just had the same panic after jacking up the rear to do a job on my soop today. I thought exactly the same- I thought I had a good drivers excuse for a disappointing end to the season then! so..... can I retro fit the parts off other soops to add this diffmount in? I plan to swap to an A01B soon anyhow so it would make sense to add the second mount if its easy enough to get the bits and plonk them on whilst I'm under the car. I haven't found anything else so far in the search so far so a point in the right direction would be appreciated if I've missed something
2soops
You can buy a standard mount from Mr T and retro fit as you said. I've just changed both mine and its a simple enough job, just need pressing in which is a bit of a pita. Hardest thing was getting the old seized one out but that won't worry you. Dan_Q
thanks mate appreciate that- i'll go see my Toyota parts man soon and see what he can do. pressing in sounds a pain- what method did you use? combination of plates and clamps? I would rather not drop the subframe if I can help it!
2soops
I used a long bolt and some plates I machined up on lathe. My subframe was out at the time though and had no diff or anything in it. I would guess it can be done in situ but you may have to drop the diff as there's probably not enough clearance otherwise
Dan_Q
legend- just what I needed to know. the diff will be coming out to load a torsen one in, so should be ok. many thanks fella
2soops
I may have a large case TT6 LSD diff pumpkin for sale in the next couple of weeks as I'm having a TRD one fitted at the moment. Should be in perfect condition but just waiting for my diff builder to confirm.
welshbuddy
i only had 1 had 1 diff mount, i thought i needed 2, just never got round to buying one but know i now only 1 was needed

I would rather not drop the subframe if I can help it! I got mine in with a man sized bearing puller. But I was prepared to remove the fuel tank to do it, if you'll have the diff out then treaded bar and heavy duty plates will no doubt give you the same result. Dan_Q
superb! nice one pedro. yeah i'll do it from the other side- don't fancy taking the tank out ha ha is the part expensive? just so I don't spit my coffee at mrT when I ask the question. cheers 2soops but I already have an A01B waiting in the wings I'm sure it will sell quick, sought after for those with an open diff. ha ha nice one welshbuddy!
