Blue Hylomar

Just wanted to check that this stuff will work fine in place of the Toyota Seal Packing (08826-00080) that they wanted about £70 for!

It'll be used for a variety of seals when putting my engine back together, including the front and rear crank oils seals.

You don't need a sealant on the front and rear crank seals.

I used Sikaflex on the sumps, works perfectly.

i actually use the halfords loctight Black Silicone. Been using that on all my engines i've built over the years and never had a problem. Basically confirms to the same specs as toyota FIPG packing

Hodge, I removed the rear seal retainer as its the easiest way to get the old seal out and fit the new one. The rear seal retainer needs FIPG when reattaching, according to the TSM.

 

Got a big wrench to hold the cam last night too.

Loctite 5910 or 5900 FTW (which I think is the black silicone mentioned above). One is designed for application by hand using a gun and the other by a robot but I forget which is which.

hey stevo i was quoted 70 quid a tube at a local toyota but on ebay i got 2 for £14 plus £17 delivery

so both tubes for half price of 1 over here

I don't think hylomar is any good, use the loctite black stuff (that's what I used) or the proper stuff as above.

 

I'm fairly certain hylomar goes rough/brittle rather than sealing. The blue hylomar we use in work certainly does (used for bedding fanblades into the outer casing).
