T14PPA
I recently bought a set of 3 piece alloys which has corrosion. Ive been told i should acid dip them before refurbishing them as the corrosion will keep coming through. Can i use nitromorse? Anyone got any advice? naybad
Hi I just had to do one of mine was quite easy. Just make sure you clean it up really well and use lots of sealant. I would suggest looking on youtube i found a couple of vids that really helped. Oh and when you put them back together get all the bolts on ASAP I was really surprised how fast the sealant dried. naybad
If you clean them properly lots of sanding to get them looking good you could get someone to strip them but i just spent a week sanding it . As long as its High Modulus silicone just use the cheapest i got mine from tool store.

Guest SL1D3Y
Hi mate, Firstly, once corrosion is set in it is difficult to say that you can irradicate it from the metal. Nitromors wont remove corrosion, your best bet it to sand blast them to best erradicate corroded metal, after that sanding them back with finer grades of paper. If you are looking to keep the poished lip i would suggest finishing in 1200-1500 and laquer it to help stop future corrosion problems. Also helps to keep them looking fresh! You can get a sand blasting kit pretty cheap from screwfix for a d.i.y job. Easy to do, just take your time and try to keep blasting material and sand paper as fine as poss for each process. Aerosol primer will tend to only fill 240 grade scratch marks and finer. Hope that helps a little?

Dnk
I would personally have them chemi stripped in phosphoric acid if there is lacquer or paint on them, this is simply washed off in water to neutralise it. After this i would have them media blasted and then get the lips polished properly by a pro polisher who at the same time as polishing them will linish out any pitting in the aluminium as long as its not too deep and powder coat the centres, if that's the look your after. I spent along time on my lips prepping them by hand which to be honest i should of just let the polisher do I would use something like tiger seal for the sealer. I did my 3 piece Equips a couple of times, once with polished lips and powder coated centres and then powder coated all Black.
Ian C
I would throw them in the bin and get some 1-piece alloys that are lacquer coated and relax knowing you won't have a constant nightmare of corrosion and deflating tyres ruining your Supra fun Yes that's the voice of experience

Guest SL1D3Y
You need to be careful, as once there highly polished the clear wont stick and just peel off giving you more work! Powder coating is great as it gives a nice even cover over the entire surface. Will be the best bet to keep away the corrosion. If you like the polished lip and have it done proffessionally ask them about an etching clear coat. Its not the cheapest option, but will last as the etch would help it stick to the bare metal. It really comes down to what you want to spend and how you want themm to look. You can buy a really fine silver (wheel chrome) which you could paint the lip in to give the effect? Mipa do a good one, use a bblack or silver base and finish with clear coat. But you cant sand between coats as it shows up all scratch marks if you go courser than 3000 grit.
