gavin.starr
Im now in the process of re-freshing my spare block to be used in my car. But whilst its on the stand, Is it possible to give all the water ways a good flush out without having the head on. I was thinking about plugging up all the water ways apart from the holes at the top(where the head gasket sits) and filling it to the top with Gunk or a similar product. And the flushing it all out afterwards. also whilst Im at it I was thinking of replacing the freezing plugs or should i not bother, or are they relitavley easy to do? cheers Gav
Kaan W
You could get it hot tanked if you know anywhere that does it?

Kaan W
Wouldnt know where to look to be honest. It's also known as a caustic soda bath but this is quite old school I'm not sure if health and safety allows this kind of thing anymore. gavin.starr
Ill have a look around my area on the internet and see what i can find. If not I may just flush it with an engine de-greaser of some sort.
chrispot
you could use hydrochloric acid if its just the block, it removes rust and scale very well. I use the strong stuff but you could use brick cleaner which is about a 5 to 10% solution of hydrochloric acid, this works well. do not use caustic soda on alloy parts it will dissolve them a lot more than HCI. or you could use sulphamic acid, which is also good at removing rust and scale etc. link to buy http://mistralni.co.uk/products/sulphamic-acid Edited August 28, 2013 by chrispot (see edit history)
