Hi all

As above - speedo and the mileometer in the middle of the dash have stopped working,, and the orange overdrive "off" light is flashing after i have travelled a few miles....anyone know where to look for the problem?...I have looked at the fuses under the bonnet and in - car by the accelerator but can't find one specifically for the speedo..they all seem ok though so am at i bit of a loss as to what to look for ?

Cheers

Is it a jap import mate? Has it had a speedo converter attached to convert KMH to MPH? If so, then that could be your culprit.

Yes and yes Peter.....Strangely enough though - it started working again yesterday - just after i had started this thread on here, lol!

It has done this once before - stopped working for a week or so....

mine did exactly the same on the way out, various combinations of all symptoms until constant failure.

If you read off the fault codes, (there's a guide somewhere on here) you'll likely have error 42, a speed sensor error, this is caused by your converter wrapping its t*ts in, and it takes a few minutes for all the different conditions to be met before you get o/d off and check engine etc etc flashing.

Tis easily sorted with a new one and plenty of fitting info on here dude.

this happened to me on and off over the past 3 month , what it turned out to be was a bad earth coming back from the engine , it was affecting the speedo my mile counter , the stereo and the starter motor not all symtoms happened at the same time and it mixed and matched as and when it felt like it

Mine goes off with i switch my headlights on? Did yours do this too guys? It still counts the miles up but doesnt light up etc

I had a host of issues which appeared soon after buying the car. I had dash lighting issues as well as the converter, I had to do a refresh of all the solder joints at the back of the dash, solved all the problems, but the odo still dims a bit when the lights go on. I can live.
