Quick decat question

Hi people

My car has an apexi avrc and is boosting at 1 bar. However, it has both cats in and from reading the BPU thread this is going to cause lots of heat and bad things will happen to my engine :(

If I just replace the 1st cat for a decat pipe will that get rid of the excess heat? I'm a little nervous about changing both in case I get pulled and they do a roadside emission test.

If I do just take the first cat out will I still need a restrictor ring or will the 2nd cat provide enough resistance.

Thanks

Carl

The second cat should provide enough resistance but it will still generate a lot of heat. To be honest I don't know of anyone or read about anyone being pulled for an emissions test. Double de-cat and RR ring and just keep the 2nd cat for the mot if needed.

You can be tested for emissions at the roadside? I've never heard of that happening.

It won't be a patrol car that has emissions kit in it but it could be done, never seen it done myself.

Some Supra's pass emission even with both cats taken out.

Yes, and although it's a legal requirement for Manufacturers to fit Cats, there is NO legal requirement to have one ! So you can remove them when you drive the car away from the dealer - as long as you can pass the Emissions Requirement for that age of vehicle without them.
