skippyboyo1
So, as some of you no the car is having some updates for next year 1 of which is carbon wings. Now I did not want to go with the nur Motorsport ones as there 40mm wider and I don't want a wide body so I decided after long discussions to have carbon wings made. These are basically a standard wing with the ally panel removed and replaced with carbon, this is not far off f1 grade carbon as you can stand on the wing now, these are a total one off and have been a total nightmare ha. The pic you see is the bare carbon, it needs another coat of epoxy resin then it's ready for paint. I have 60 pictures already ready to update my build thread but ill wait till its done Edited August 23, 2013 by skippyboyo1 (see edit history)

skippyboyo1
Cheers guys Weight wise I've no idea, If I'm honest weight does not concern me at all so they could be heavier and I wouldn't care, however yes they will be lighter. I've many other plans in Motion concerning this grade carbon which will be posted in my build thread. Again as some of you no I've totaly gone off "carbon copies" wraps, dipping etc so this will all be the real McCoy.

skippyboyo1
Very nice work! Pictures of you standing on it, or it's a lie Fair play, I've not got the balls to stand on them or the bank balance
Josh
Fair play, I've not got the balls to stand on them or the bank balance I don't blame you What other parts are you going to create, or is it secret at the mo'?
skippyboyo1
I don't blame you What other parts are you going to create, or is it secret at the mo'? All my ideas are currently being made but not wanting to make a fool of myself if they don't turn out I'm going to wait until there done plus I'm in descussion with the mods about certain items so will announce in good time. safcdixon
Have you created a mold for the wings? If so any interest in maybe making a small amount to flog on?
skippyboyo1
Have you created a mold for the wings? If so any interest in maybe making a small amount to flog on? No not on theses, the nur Motorsport wings are on offer at the moment for £900 but as stated above not many people want to go 40mm wider than standard, these were just a one off. The next parts pending the mods decision will be available though I need to get back to them with prices which we don't no yet.

skippyboyo1
Like it! Did you say you're painting them? 100% yes, I have plans though so you can still see the carbon
Guest balloo
this looks very interesting! how is f1 grade carbon different from the normal carbon? i mean, yes, it's stronger.....but what makes it stronger?
skippyboyo1
this looks very interesting! how is f1 grade carbon different from the normal carbon? i mean, yes, it's stronger.....but what makes it stronger? Basically it's more layers of actual carbon and epoxy resin, no fiber glass at all! Lots of products on the market are fiber glass based with one sheet of carbon on the top, basically it's real carbon fibre with zero strength unlike this. I could leave the bear carbon and not clear coat it the quality is so high. obviously it's well expensive but it's the real thing. For an example the shine diffuser is fibreglass based and costs around £600 due to this, if you were to make the same diffuser using this method the cost would triple. tooquicktostop
As you have not gone wider or different in shape, what was wrong with the original wings, seems a lot of expense for no real gain?
skippyboyo1
As you have not gone wider or different in shape, what was wrong with the original wings, seems a lot of expense for no real gain? To me carbon over ally is a massive gain. It's same old saying "each to there own" I wanted something different but didn't feel the need to go wider. Rob_Mitchell
Looking good, be interested in weight? stock wings are mega light and in a event of accident they wont shatter over the road like carbon ones. Leave them bare mate looks too good a finish to paint lol
d-_-b
Looking very nice dude, lot of hours i bet went into making them! Im glad you mentioned you would still be able to see the carbon through the paint else i was wondering why you were having them done if it wasn't for weight saving or aesthetics Looking forward to the updates!
