gt4tosupra
Hi guys i have a soarer tt which of course has many the same bits as the supra. I have just bought 2 secondhand front lower arms but just wanna know, is it right that the ball joint can be moved around fairly easy like in a 'joystick' way? They dont move in a vertical way so i'm assuming these are ok to go ahead and fit?
Ian C
Yes, balljoints should do that

Chris Wilson
New ones are stiff, but once they have 100K on them they'll waggle freely, if not be actually knackered.
gt4tosupra
Hopefully they'll be ok then as I've bought from a trader who says there fine
gt4tosupra
Another question guys. It appears that i have torn the dust boot on one of the arms ball joint Do they just pull off then i can replace it? Is there generic ones that fit? Pete
Another question guys. It appears that i have torn the dust boot on one of the arms ball joint Do they just pull off then i can replace it? Is there generic ones that fit? Not sure they sell those separately? Always assumed they come with the joint. I just Googled Dust Boot Covers and see plenty on ebay...if you can find a proper fit. I think you'll need to put some grease under it too? I'm sure someone that actually knows what they're talking about will be along soon. Chris Wilson
It's not the end of the world if you just leave it off, unless you plan on another 300K miles and 20 years ownership. For sure water and grit may reduce its life a tad, but it won't make it fail in the next year or 10,000 miles if it's AOK right now. If you are REALLY paranoid I might have a scrap w/bone I can pull a good boot off. I also believe some generic ones are available and fit quite well. Do a forum search. Chris Wilson
No point in adding grease as there's a wiper seal that keeps the OE grease in, but it also keeps new grease OUT. Don't lie awake worrying about it

Chris Wilson
If you need an MOT soon and your guy is keen eyed you may as well fit an undamaged boot. Gluing them, like gluing C/V gaiters, rarely works for long.
