Random brake / radio issue

Here's a noodle scratcher. If i'm in an area of weaker FM signal, applying the brake completely cuts the reception out. Lift the pedal and it comes back.

 

I've had a look, and there appears to be no broken cable wrapped around the brake pedal. It's an aftermarket HU, but can't see how that would make any difference?

 

Has anyone ever experienced something similar or is this just going to be one of those odditys i'll never understand?

I would normally say check the earth connections, but that's unlikely to be a cause because it only happens when the radio signal is weak. Check the aerial is connected properly, and check the brake light and head unit earths anyway.

Try disconnecting the brake light switch at the pedal and see if it still happens (carefully as you'll have no brake lights!). That's the only electrical circuit until you trigger the ABS. If the problem goes away, you've got an earth or short somewhere in that circuit.
