Bobbystone
Hi all. I had a problem a few months ago where my water pump went and pissed all my coolent away. Car bin off road now for about 2months and ive just had the water pump and cambelt changed so i hoped all would be better. But no....... :thumbdown All new coolent in and iv driven it out of the garage and the temp gauge has rissen to 3/4 and there was a small bubbling sound and a small amount of steam out the coolent pipe above the overflow tank. Also i have no use of the heater system as im just getting cold air. :thumbdown Im really wanting to get this sorted as i cant take not driving the soop anymore so please please please help me to solve this problem or im going to sit and cry for the rest of my lonely little life. Thanks All. Rob
Steve
Sounds like trapped air in the system, try bleeding it again Have you tried replacing the rad cap. They do start bubbling when they are knackered.
Bobbystone
cheers for the fast responce. how do you bleed the system? could it be or has it got a thermostat? how much coolent do i need in the system? cheers
Steve
When the car is cold. Remove the rad cap. Fill up to the top. Start car and put the heater on its hottest setting with the fan on full. I then found the easiest way to force the air out is to squeeze the two pipes at the rear off the engine that go to the heater matrix (careful though they will get hot). You should see air come out of the rad. Just keep topping with fluid as needed. After about ten minutes of this you should find the heater gets hot. Replace the rad cap, top up the expansion tank to the required level and enjoy. If you still get the bubbling noise after a drive you may need to replace the rad cap as it is probably knackered. Think the system holds about 9.5 litres of fluid. best to use Toyota Forlife (red stuff) Hope this helps

Nic
Bobby, did you change the rad cap when you had the new pump fitted? If you have boiled over before, then this will probably have knackered the rad cap too. If the rad cap is not holding the pressure you will see temps rise as you describe.
