berg
Cutting a long story short... I bought the supra and it had a bad rocker cover leak and must have been like it a long time....this left the gearbox and other parts completely covered in old oil Ive took the box off today to fit my new clutch and inside the box is exactly the same, there is also some very slight oil contamination on the clutch and flywheel Is it possible for the oil from the rocker leak to seep into the box like that or could i have a crank seal gone aswell? If its the crank seal is it easily changed with the flywheel remnoved or is it more of a serious job? Cheers
Swampy442
Doubt it could get in from the cam covers, probably the rear crank seal. Not a big job once the fly wheel is off.
Chris Bailey
You'd know if your crank seal had gone because you'd be loosing ALOT of engine oil within very few miles!
WaLKeRR
i think my crank seal is doing the same it slipped up my clutch when warm. But also i had a rocker cover leak, box is out now, new rear main will be going in also new rockers so should fix this issue hopefully you can sort it too. berg
Car has never lost oil since i replaced the rocker covers a good few months ago..seems strange as there is alot of old oil in there but the small amount on the clutch and flywheel looked fresh Ill whip the flywheel off i suppose and check it over anyway Ill happily change it though seeing as its not a big job Anyone know any places to buy the seal from other than the dealers? Nic
You'd know if your crank seal had gone because you'd be loosing ALOT of engine oil within very few miles! Front crank seal yes, not the rear seal.
Rich.2211
Rear crank seal could of been weeping or maybe even the oil pan not sealed very well if it's been off before? Most likely the rear crank seal though like you say, easy to change with the flywheel off.
Chris Bailey
Front crank seal yes, not the rear seal. I meant the front crank seal I'd imagine the rear seal would just weep oil every now and then.

Nice recovery Now explain how oil leaking from the front crank seal gets into the clutch.......?

marc_p
Sounds like the rear crank seal is weeping, not a big issue, easy to change if you're doing the clutch.
