C12MMO
I have had a knocking nose from the rear of the car at low speeds when on rough roads or going over speeds bumps. I have 6 month old coilovers on it and the tracking is correct, I have also replaced the drop links and made sure everything's tight with no movement yet the nose is still there. I also fitted new boot rubbers at the same time as thr drop links. I think I have narrowed it down too been loose subframe bolts. Now here's my dilemma, I have access to a mates ramp and tools but I have a carbon shine auto rear diffuser fitted, can I get access too the subframe bolts with this fitted or has it got to come off? Really don't want to have to take it off because it's a PITA to fit and I'll probably break it. I can't just chuck it on the ramp to check as Its not going to be free for a few weeks and can't get under the car as I've knack'd my knee up. Can anyone shed any light on this, also how safe is the car while I have this knock? Thanks Karl
paulj1
Did you put new topmounts on with the coilovers lad?
C12MMO
Ye, The coilovers were brand new BC racing ones from Whiftbitz. The knock started 5 months after fitting the coilovers, just a thought any idea on the correct torque setting of the top mounts?
SupraStar 3000
I have exactly the same issue as you - Also have the shine diffuser fitted. This weekend I'll be jacking my car up to take a look. If the diffuser has to be removed I'm screwed. Lets hope its just a loose subframe bolt thats easy to get at.

It's really starting to annoy me now, too the point where unless I really have to I won't take the car out so need to sort it. I was hoping it was the boot rubbers but it wasnt . Good luck at the weekend and let me know how you get on.

SupraStar 3000
Jacked up the car today and 'attempted' to tightened the subframe bolts. Good news is, the diffuser didn't need removing. The weird thing was, all the bolts seemed solid, and tight enough. Had a good look around and couldn't seem anything amiss regards breaks, shocks or subframe. Tightened every bolt I could find and finally gave up. My miss's needing dropping off in town, so I took the Supra. Low and behold, the knocking has gone. But i feel this only temporary joy, as i didn't drive fast or take it on bumpy roads. A more rigorous test is needed, but fingers crossed. David P
With it jacked up the shocks will have been extended for a long period, when they've settled back down, if the knock comes back you've found it.
SupraStar 3000
Very good point David. I'll keep that in mind. Cheers mate.
antno
Do you rubber top mounts or spherical bearing?
C12MMO
That sounds successful so far then Ed, has the knock still gone?? I tackled my subframe bolts on Tuesday night and the knock has gone and I've done 50 or so miles so I'm very happy! The test is on Saturday when I'll be doing over 200 miles. I used 2 jacks and 2 axle stands to get underneath, would be miles easier with a ramp. From close inspection my anti roll bar seems to have disintegrated so will need a replacement soon. trebor69
My Celica had an annoying and illusive knock from the rear which eventually turned out to be a seized N/S handbrake cable which was letting the shoes rattle about on their fixings inside the disc ........ same setup on the Supra so you never know.....
