Arron Posted July 6, 2013 Share Posted July 6, 2013 (edited) 1995 TT UK Spec (not BPU) Car has never played up, been in garage for 2 months (snm) for a full re-spray, took it out yesterday. noticed central locking was playing up - not working from fob or key in the door but did work via button on inside driver door card. Started and stopped car about 3 times during the day. This morning tried to start and nothing, all lights in dash are coming on as normal, immobiliser light goes out but the car is not cranking over..... Brand new car battery too. I have noticed a really weird hissing noise coming from inlet manifold when the ignition is on, what is this??? never heard it before. No vac pipes are off or anything. ] To top it all off the central locking has now stopped working full stop! I would like some help and advice please, supposed to be taking family out today so as you can imagine I'm not in the good books I'm going to jack car up and tap starter to see if it's that.. Fizzy T Posted July 6, 2013 Share Posted July 6, 2013 I'd be going around checking all the earthing points. The guys who did the respray might of removed the earths to paint areas. Then when putting them back it's straight onto freshly dried paint. I've had earthing issues through paint before so I had to rub it down and then fit the earth. Sorted all my issues. Arron Posted July 6, 2013 Author Share Posted July 6, 2013 No earthing was taken off during spray. However, I tried a direct earth to engine using a jump battery and still no joy. I have now by passed the clifford concept 500 and still not cranking. I've tapped the starter to see if that needed a nudge but still not cranking over...... Arron Posted July 6, 2013 Author Share Posted July 6, 2013 Just to keep thread updated: AA been out said he suspects the alarm immob is faulty?! even though the led in dash goes out and I've apparantly disarmed it....He carried out some tests and said ecu is sending signal to throttle body but there is no current being drawn from the battery while key is fully turned - hence his observation that it could be down to a faulty immob. A point he also said was cliffords are notorious for going pete tong if the siren is not working, mines been off since I purchased the car. So fingers crossed.... I've got a Clifford alarm specialist coming out to by-pass the alarm and see if it cranks over, once that's been eliminated and the car starts, happy days! if it doesn't work then it's pointing to some other problem. I think I have 2 issues (or possibly more) 1/ alarm prob and 2/ central locking prob. With my alarm not being the standard Toyota alarm I cannot see how that thread will work. Clifford alarms are good but very different to the usual standard Toyota stuff. Thanks for the heads up though :-) I'm still concerned about the weird hissing noise coming from the inlet port area, but only when ignition is on. I have a sneaky feeling the continuous noise is the fuel being pumped into the fuel rail and back to the tank, for some reason the fuel pressure regulator is not shutting off after a few secs but that's hopefully something linked to alarm not allowing starter to crank over..... Have a look at this thread, post 52 worked for me. I know it's not quite what your symptoms are but worth a try. Arron Posted July 10, 2013 Author Share Posted July 10, 2013 As I suspected the Clifford alarm was malfunctioning! Despite disarming the car the cut-off feed for the starter was still active i.e still armed. My mate by-passed the whole alarm and presto!! It cranked over HAPPY DAYS! The weird hissing noise while ignition was on was due to the car thinking it's in full operation mode but the starter was not cranking because of the alarm. 1/ Hissing gone. 2/ Car is working fine 3/ New Clifford going on today :-) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
