T2 MSW
Cheers John, do you know the torque settings for the flywheel & pressure plate? Is flywheel 49 ft/lbs + 90 degrees - I cant find anything on the clutch in the workshop manuals
bignum
Mate you don`t need to align anything on the 6 speed, the whole thing fits on a hub on the input shaft, unless its some weird aftermarket jobbie

T2 MSW
Its all here bud,http://mkiv.com/techarticles/clutch/index.html Ah makes sense, and then assume you bolt up the pressure plate through the inspection panel?
Chris Wilson
The only time you need an alignment tool is for multi plate clutches, to line the splines up. A stock clutch is fitted on the input shaft with the `box still on the gearbox jack, or your mate's chest if doing it the hard way.
Chris Wilson
Ah makes sense, and then assume you bolt up the pressure plate through the inspection panel? yep, evenly. And make sure the dowels are in the dowel holes, not in some of the bolt holes. Lever the cover slightly onto the dowels to get it all set up evenly. Chris Wilson
You MUST have the clutch on the g/box when you offer the box to the engine or vice versa. You CANNOT have the clutch on the flywheel first!!!

dude
Like CW says there is only 1 way, so you need to have the engine raised when you put the box on so you can get access to the windows to do the bolts up holding the cover on and get the clutch fork in. Al Massey
Is this the same for the 5 speed box?
Chris Wilson
For the stock type clutch on a 5 speed MKIV you need a basic alignment tool. Not expensive. Halfords or Ebay.
