Caesard
Guys, please what plug is this? My car still runs fine, but stalls sometimes on idle, so was wondering whether this plug is important. I couldn't find any place to plug it into.
safcdixon
Looks like an indicator plug mate
Chris Wilson
Looks like one with leprosy from the way you're holding it
Caesard
Haha, maybe,. Would you like to come hold it a while, Chris?
Chris Wilson
Err, no thanks, it was a life changing experience for me when I realised in my twenties what had really happened in my childhood when Jimmy Savile showed me how to milk a cow, blindfolded. absz
Might be for the power steering rack if its long enough, there is a sensor by the steering rack were the steering shaft bolts onto.
hodge
It goes to the power steering rack bud.
Caesard
There is already a plug in the steering shaft. This one comes from the block and is part of the set of which one plugs into the back of the alternator. I think there are 5 different plugs in all coming from one cable from the engine. Chris Wilson
As the loom hiding guru says, I think it's a PAS rack connector, too. From memory the rack has two connectors, that one and a very small one. or is that Skylines.... It's not vital to the thing running, anyway

The faster you go, the stiffer your steering gets, this is just a signal wire from the ECU.
Caesard
Aha, might explain why my power steering is so stiff, i cant turn it with one hand, even though i have bled the fluid countless times. My car is an auto, so means i have to hunt for the connector. If my steering rack is from a manual, will it still have 2 connections, eh Hodge, oh loom hiding guru? hodge
No it will only have 1. I'm not a tidally sure what the other connector is for, odviously something to do with the gearbox. If you havnt got the other one (it's a single wire sound plug) don't sweat it, it will still work fine.
Caesard
Hodge, but won't it affect the stiffness of my power steering? I can barely turn the damn thing. Should i get an auto power steering rack?
