Ecu tool

Looked at the tb again, it seems throttle lever side of it doesn't open the butterfly valve until about 4/5 of the way round. Took it off yesterday and will take it apart tonight and have a look. Can't believe I missed that lol but it does sound like the mechanism ( if there is one) on the tps side is clunking or something. Any ideas? Cheers Chris

mine makes a clunking when the ignition is off, and a very slight buzz when the ignition is on, and you hear the motor moving the throttle butterfly.

thats quite normal when the ignition is off, most cars with drive by wire have a throttle pedal sensor in the car and no cable to the throttle body, it then sends a signal to the ecu which in turn sends a signal to the throttle body motor to move where needed. the supra works in exactly the same way except that the pedal sensor is on the end of the a cable which is fitted to the throttle body. so if there is a fault with the system (limp mode) it then relies on the cable to move the throttle butterfly, which is the last bit of the cable movement.

what should happen is when the ignition is on the ecu senses where the throttle pedal sensor is and then sends a signal to the throttle butterfly motor to move where needed. we are lucky in the fact that if you lose the throttle pedal sensor we still have a small amount of throttle, other cars that don't have a cable as a backup like the supra and have no throttle, hope you understood all that.

i have not checked yet but i'am pretty certain that the throttle pedal sensor uses two pots and the throttle valve use two, they use two for a error checking system (can't explain myself properly) so the electronics don't play up and the motor does'nt rev up /slow down on it's own.

if you need any more help just let me know.

regards chris.

PS. as i said before i could check what voltages i have on mine and on what colour wires etc, but won't be able to until the weekend if that's any good to you?

Chris could you do me a favour please mate? I checked the tps ohms and they were all over the place, I've replaced the tps and the fault code for that has gone/eliminated. I still have the accelerator pedal position sensor fault up. And have checked them ohms between terminals cl+ and cl- and have almost 6 Ohms. Could you check yours and let me know please? It may just need adjusting or cleaning possibly? Thanks. Lee

I had a similar issue & it turnout to be a faulty TB. Replaced it with another TB & problem solved!!

If it is the TPS though which is faulty, Ashbhp from Garage786 has a brand new one laying around from where he brought it to test mine.

I have already changed the tps and the fault code for that has gone now. I just have the accelerator position pedal sensor fault now so I might try and get one of those and hopefully problem solved. Do you know what was actually wrong with yours Abz? Cheers for the help anyways

Did you try to clear this fault? Also, do you drive with diag tool switched on? Because it causing Acc position sensor to throw fault - probably because data flow is not fast enough. You would find same problem with Aristo withj VVTi engine :)

hi, no haven't tried to drive with the diag tool plugged in, only stationary, although the tps fault seems to have cleared and the app fault stayed up. after clearing that fault I started the car and it idled fine down to 700rpm, rev'd the engine a coulpe of times and it went into limp mode again and the app fault came back up again. reset the etcs-i again and started the car and it idled fine again, then the revs climbed to 1100 rpm and sat there. I revd it a couple of times and although it didn't go into limp mode, the revs stayed at 1100. I will be taking it out hopefully sunday once I refit my calipers back on so I cn try it then.
