wile e coyote
Feeling for you mate Do you have a oil pressure gauge fitted if so what's it showing on idle ? Does the oil pressure light go straight out? Local garage could fit a mechanical gauge to test pressure

David P
Excuse me, but that sounds full of expensive rattles, both top and bottom. If it's beyond you, the first penny spent must be on trusted diagnosis. What oil are you using and what pressure is shown at working temp? trebor69
I had a frayed belt that made a strange noise on a car years ago .....I'd take the cam cover off and look at the gears and the belt if only to eliminate stuff .

Oil is Fuchs 5w-40 Fully Synthetic Don't know the pressure as I don't have a gauge Definitely going to have to get it checked professionally, I just don't have this sort of knowledge and don't profess to

dan294
I might be miles off with AK Motorworx? What was AP Motors? Not had the best of dealings with them myself over the years, but I've seen your car on their website.

Not had the best of dealings with them myself over the years, but I've seen your car on their website. Again not the best, didn't know they had my car on there website either, that must be from the JapRiders rolling road day I attended, they sat a fat dude in the boot of my N/A so it could get traction on the rollers:taped: If you want I will buy your twin turbo's off you (the ones you got from moon) and that will give you the money to resolve this problem;) If I end up having to sell the Turbo's I will be selling the whole car because without replcing the Turbo's I won't be driving it anyway
dan294
Had someone sat in the boot of an NA for traction?? They must have a great dyno then!!
Swampy442
It doesnt sound like its any worse when you rev it, strange. As Lee said if its bottom end the knock will be noticeably louder when you rev it and the engine decelerates. Sure its not the aux belt pulley? That can make some wierd noises, take the aux belt off and run it?
DodgyRog
Had someone sat in the boot of an NA for traction?? They must have a great dyno then!! I am guessing they looked at the car and thought it was going to burn up the rollers, it did look fast even when it was an N/A, well it was actually quicker I guess than it is now It doesnt sound like its any worse when you rev it, strange. I will try and check a few bits tomorrow if I don't get any work, but the knocking really sounds internal
Dim Sum
I cant give any usefully opinion or suggestion, but wish you the best of luck with Supra.
Scooter
Definitely take the aux belt off before you start it next just in case it's a noisy alternator bearing or something simple. NA swap back in a possible option to give time to sort the TT engine out? they are always saying it's easier to pull the engine to replace the turbo's... NA swap back in a possible option to give time to sort the TT engine out? they are always saying it's easier to pull the engine to replace the turbo's... I will try the belt, but 99% sure it's nothing to do with a pulley Definitely won't put an N/A back in, if the engine is dead, then I will not be owning a Supra anymore, I just can't justify throwing away £3000 for a Dragonball and a drive back from Whifbitz to only have to go and spend a load more, I actually thought twice about changing the Turbo's I would never be happy with N/A power levels again Edited July 3, 2013 by DodgyRog (see edit history)
Justin Bieber
Sorry to hear about your troubles, I know your pain, my transplant started knocking after 400 miles! Its the risk you take with used parts unfortunately. Mine did sound a bit different though and the noise when revved and on the rundown was horrendous, so it may not be the bottom end yet, definitely get it checked by a professional is the only advice I can give
markssupra
Feel for you bud, doesnt sound good. It may sound daft, but if you have a very long screwdriver or similar shaft, put one ear on the handle and the other end place in different positions on the engine while its running. You should be able to hear the sound better in one place than others. It might help track down where its coming from. I have done this before to find a buggered cam follower on another car. dr_jekyll
I think this car deserves a club effort to get it sorted, its one of the the prettiest and with all the effort that's gone into it we cant let it die, great advert for the mkiv and the club
