What exhaust for tt

I'm looking at getting a new system on my tt and every tt I've heard so far doesn't sound how I imagined, I had a Lexus before with the 2jz-ge lump in it and it sounded just like a supra, it had that iconic deep sound with a little but if rasp,

Now I've got a tt I wanna try and get it to sound like that but so far I've only heard single conversions sound like that and every tt I've heard so far hasn't got tat sort of tone and is just loud.

Is there any exhaust that has that sort of sound its hard to explain but basically the sound that most the singles make?

I'm bit fussed if its loud the car doesn't come out all the time and my neighbours are dealers I think lol

I'd go to John Ashley Exhausts in Walsall and ask him to make you one to suit your spec mate. I had one made by him when I had my TT and I loved the sound, 3" mandrel bent with 3" decats all made in house to give the best flowing system he could make. Mine made good power too for the boost, I think the exhaust must of helped!

The stock TT setup uses an internal wastegate and it's recirculated into the exhaust. A fair few of the singles, and probably the ones you've heard/are talking about, will be running an external wastegate with a wastegate pipe/screamer pipe venting atmospherically. That plays a big part in the sound they make.

If you want an off the shelf item, maybe a look at the Whifbitz exhausts or the Boost Logic items?

Basically its as Rich said because of the way the wastgates work in the stock TT setup its very difficult to get that pure straight 6 sound like you can from the 2JZ GE lump. The difference in noise is also down to the turbo's being slapped in between the manifold and the exhaust.

Anyway the closest car I've heard to sounding like a 2JZ GE engine is justin bieber's he's got a £200 or so quid exhaust from ebay, that he use to have on his N/A its pretty quiet on idle. But makes a lovely straight 6 bark when you mash your foot down, either that or go to someone you know who could make you a good custom exhaust :)

Ah that makes sense, ill go have a word with my exhaust guy see what he says he can do then for me he built me my last 3" catback for £200 so might not cost that much hopefully either

I'd love a boost logic as that thing sounds sick but again when I heard it on a tt it was just loud not really that straight 6 sound

So what exactly should I tell my exhaust guy (cos he's not worked in a supra yet), take both cats off and 3-4" pipe straight through to one box on the back, and hope that that sounds more like what I want?

I personally with hindsight would have left the irst cat in place. With an HKS silent power tail the sound was great and I had many an envious comment. Now that I am single and am straight through to tail box the noise is quite excessive and I am looking at ways to quieten her down!

Well today's your lucky day I shall swap my tt quiet supra for your single loud supra? Haha I wish

Yeah that sounds right mate, I would say 3" and possibly leave the first cat in unless you want to go full BPU, or take it out and see how it sounds

Yh ill be going full bpu next year so ill take that out too and see how it sounds, if not ill see how straight pipe with the first cat still in place sounds til next year if it still sounds not how I like then ill just start collecting parts to go single as I have thought about it already

i've got a nurspec r on my supra and i really like it. double decat on a TT and on idle and cruise its just in the background without being over powering. And then on full throttle has a really nice raw to it

Tim

I liked the Nur Spec on my TT BPU but it didn't make anything like a straight 6 sound IMHO

Yh that's the sort of sound, my old Lexus had that sound as it was an na 2jz lump and sounded awesome, my mates got just the 1st cat on a 3" system and 5zigen rear and it just sounds boring compared to the above cars its loud but it just sounds like a loud car not really got a nice tone to it

The design of the exhaust, material, tubing diameter and wall section of the material, plus number, shape and design of the silencers used all have an effect on how an exhaust sounds.

For example a titanium exhaust sounds a lot different to a stainless steel exhaust. The titanium tubing used is generally a lot thinner than steel tubing so the materials have a different resonance. Some steal exhausts on say a BPU TT can sound very dull and droney at certain rpms, you don't get that so much with titanium, instead you get more of a raspy/racy sound.

I loved my GReddy Ti-R exhaust with the GT35R, it use to 'sing' to me :)
