scott87
I can't seem to find an exact answer anywhere. But I'm lookin for the torque setting for the can cover on a non vvti na. Also if someone could confirm that the na has just one large gasket that would be great

scott87
Ok thanks. I was told that but then other sources have said 5 and a few higher..... I will be working it out by eye then so to speak. Far to low for the wrench I have here.
Wez
Its a rubber seal so only needs nipping up, too tight and it will split
Scooter
Whatever you nip them up to/with I would go back a few days/engine heat cycles later and test they are still tight...
scott87
Cool thanks. Just wanted to gauge how tight I would have to do it by hand. hopefully it will stop raining so I can so it today. Also if anyone can confirm the blueprint part ADT36744 is the correct gasket?
Dnk
Over tightening them is more likely to crack the cam cover than split the seal. 8 NM is bugger all and will be easily over tightened, use a 1/4 drive ratchet gently
scott87
The blueprint part number i quoted above is the correct part. The old gasket didn't really seem in that bad a condition, just a little flatter than the new one. Anyway torqued it down, slightly higher than 8nm and all is well. Also managed to paint the cam covers, plug cover and throttle body whilst i was at it too.

berg
Thought they were individual gaskets for each cover?
scott87
Thought they were individual gaskets for each cover? Yer it is 2 rectangle gaskets, Was just the picture that was misleading.
