Warning Lights came on?

Recommended Posts

Trying to buy a Supra and took one for a test drive at the weekend :)

(i need one sooo badly now)

J-Spec, 96, Auto, TT, Few mods.

The bloke selling it (trade) said it had the limiter taken off,but when i floored off the slip road, it hit around the 112mph mark (wasnt looking at the time) and it came to a sudden halt (just the same as my import prelude - still limited).

A triangular '!' warning light came on in the rev counter area and the engine management light came on as well.:music:

When i got back i turned the engine off, waited a while & turned it back on but the lights where still on.

Did i break it? music:

Hopefully i get one for the JAE meet :D

Sounds like it is still limited or an incorrect speedo conversion.

This dealer wouldn't have been in Herts somewhere not far from the M25 would they ?

LOL, I test drove a car from there and it did exactly the same thing as Brave is finding. They said it was because the spedo was disconnected (which is was...)

You MAY!!! be confusing the speed limiter with FUEL CUT.

Yes I know the speed limiter is the most likely.

BUT

You can hit fuel cut if you do FLOOR IT at high speed high load etc etc.

Especially if you get the red warning triangle and engine warngin light come on.

This coupled with probably crap fuel in it (doubt they put Super Unleaded in?) and also worn out plugs (or wrong plugs) could also feel like juddering or missing at high speed.

When I purchased mine it had cheep import tyres (hard as nails and slipped everywhere), normal dyno oil (which burnt up in the first 1000 miles) and shit plugs. On the outside it looked great, shame they had to spoil the first few thousand miles with a cheap service.

Since I changed the lot and always put good stuff in her I've never had a problem since.

To be delimited they'd have had to have done something to the car, so why didn't they convert it to MPH as well??

Very odd but this is never normally a major problem and can be easily fixed.

Regards

Pete

Cheers to all above.

I dont know exactly how the limiter works on my car, but it felt the same. I tjerked you forward. I presume a fuel cut. The Supe then got going again a 5mph slower. There was no juddering, just a very defined shut off.

I was concerned why the warning lights still stayed on, even when i turned everythinig off and on again?

:music:

Not going to buy it - a bit sus.

I'm going to keep looking for a manual i think.:D :D :D
