Fault

Hi All, please could someone help me, my 1995 n/a supra is driving me mad. Fault started months ago, first noticed when the car reached exactly 58 miles per hour the engine warning light and the red triangle came on. Temperature is normal and the car runs great. Also if i go up a steep hill the light sometimes comes on at any speed, if i stop, turn the engine off wait ten seconds start the engine and drive away the warning lights dont come back on unless i reach 58 mph or go up a steep incline.

Also if i drive down hill and am about to stop say at traffic light the car cuts out, if im going up hill and slowly go to turn a corner it sometimes cuts out. On the flat and below 58 no problems at all.

Its been in the garage twice, first time said it was a sensor in the gearbox paid for dyno, parts and labour £280.00 on the way home same problem. Back to the garage who plugged the magic box in, changed the distributor "secondhand" and coil, and mot it while it was there, went straight through mot, another bill for £275.00. so this time let my wife drive it home ! guess what cut out after 1/2 mile whilst turning a corner. I tried it out today, cut out at the lights bottom of forder valley, and warning lights came on at 58mph on the parkway. please anybody any ideas?

Do all the warning lights on the left and right of the dash come on when the ignition is turned on?

The main warning light coming on going up/down hill may be the brake fluid level, top up just above the max level.

The speed related warning light could be one of a couple of things, it could be a faulty or badly fitted speedo converter/delimiter or it could be an auto front spoiler issue.

As said do a diagnostic check to see if there are any fault codes stored

  • 3 weeks later...

I bought a diag tool called 'obdmate' it does jobd, and all japenese makes. £40 saves taking it to a garage and getting raped. It showed my falut no problems, I haven't fixed the fault yet but that's another story :)
