you lucky people.......I had bikes years ago but after several crashes (one nasty one with the wife on the back) ALL caused by car drivers, my wife banned me from having one ever again......I still lust after one, but wifelet is more important - also, I also prefer having a six foot bonnet in front of me rather than getting a six foot bonnet in me....enjoy, but take it steady guys

Still limping and nursing a hole in the knee from 3 years ago, re-did the bike but must be getting old now, cause I fancied heated gloves????

Got rid of the TL's and R1 and now fancy a BMW R1100 (Watched Long way round and feel inspired)

Anyone fancy arranging a supe world trip???????

Avoid the loonies and kno8s and look well ahead !!!

I've still got my Fireblade but I never use it these days. Getting soaked and freezing your arse off just doesn't seem like fun anymore.

I've had a few nasty scrapes over the years. Broke both my arms, almost took my kneecap off, woke up in hospital with a big lump on my head two days after crashing. I don't want to push my luck any more.

Besides, I can go almost as fast in my Supra, in heated comfort and dryness and relative safety.

Yeah bike test is quite expensive now, plus all the proper gear isnt cheap either if you want to protect yourself.

lol - when I did my bike test it was just over 200 quid all in and I was only on the road for about 3 hours training then a 20 mins test.

I am like Jake also, dont like the wet or cold so me VTR1000 sits in the garage with only 4500 miles on it :D but with me new house moving almost upon me, might have to garage the Supe and use the Bike to save cash :(

When I took my bike test, aged 17 years and 10 days, it was £10 all in. One test, no training required. Crazy really.

As mentioned in my earlier post, six days later I was unconcious in hospital :D

As said before, bikes are great as long as the weather isn't bad. Not looking forward to the winter months :(

I don't think the bike test price is that bad. If you think that a driving lesson nowadays costs like £30, do 20 of those and your already into £600. It's just the big amount all at once that sounds bad.

... faster than pretty much all cars - sorted :D

Under ideal conditions, yes.

In reality in this country there is rain, sleet, snow, what have you...You have to dress for the bike (and look out of place practically everywhere), find a place to park every time (parking attendants, thieves and vandals are everywhere) and duck every moron who refuses to see you, or even tries to push you off (it happens!)

Things are totally different in the Med, where it hardly ever rains, it's hot and you can wear whatever you like really (even helmet is optional in many countries down south), you can park wherever you like (pavements perhaps), etc etc...Biking in the UK sucks in my opinion.

Even commuting on a bike is becoming a nightmare, the councils try to convert bike parking bays to those for cars, because it is more profitable. Greedy councils try to make money of bikers, how sad...

No probs round my way, commuting is great, saves me sitting in the constant jams on my route to work. And for the days its minging thats why I have a car!

Then get to go out for a blast with mates at the weekend and its as much a social things as owning a Supe for example.

ZX9R is a bargain. Under rated bike, stonkin engine:D

BUT I lost a mate this afternoon, 75 yr old pulled right out, he had no chance. Died 4 minutes after impact leaving a wife and kids. He knew the risks and we all have lost many friends since riding from 16 and all had very lucky escapes etc. most down to our own enthusiastic riding than other cars. So be carefull out there!

Sorry to hear about your mate Mig, TBH I never knew about your accident. Honestly I don't see the chair just a really nice guy with a love of life matey:D

It sucks it really does, anyone one who rides or used to would have lost people close to them. Then again I lost a few friends in car wrecks, especially when we were younger. I know everytime I go out on the bike I risk losing my life but the pleasure it gives me and the friends it has brought into my life, its a risk I take. Thankfully I have never knocked anyone off a bike whilst driving the car but it can happen, we all have lack of judgement sometimes, its just more fatal when it involves a bike:(
