Whitelightning
Unfortunately today TAZ had an accident. The cambelt died and the engine cut out. :thumbdown I am not sure if the engine will need a rebuild (3rd time lucky). If she does need a rebuild I am not sure if I am able to afford it. If the engine internals are mush, will I strip her down for parts for a new project I wonder ? Regretfully TAZ was never finished to the standard and performance I wanted, if the price is high for a rebuild I shall need to see what options are open to me. (Another Supra, a noble etc ?) If we find that the engine is ok and can be re-aligned I will ensure she is back on the road as soon as possible. Mark at Phoenix in Watford will be taking delivery of the car today and said he will inspect her on Monday. As usual, she would not fit on the transporter so the 2nd picture you see below shows the lights out and the bumper hanging off. Don't worry I did not hit anything, we simply removed them to get it up the ramp. On a high note - the awards from SONID (The Euro Supra Meet 2005) came in the post today. I got "Best Mkiv engine bay" and "Best Mkiv modified car". So thank you to the SONID team, I shall put these on the shelf next to the TAZ obituary Picture 1 - Two awards from SONID (The Euro Supra Meet 2005) Picture 2 - Half a cam belt on worn HKS cams Picture 3 - Transporting TAZ

MARTIN R
Hope its not as bad as you think, its a top car and be a shame if TAZ is no more
eyefi
why would the engine need a rebuild, has it been made into an Interference engine?
LeeT
bad luck mate, you really are not having much luck with that car are you? what caused the cambelt to fail, any ideas? its not down to the hks cam gears is it? there was a thread a while ago on supraforums about the gears being too soft and creating sharp edges which shred the belt. congrats on the trophies though
Faye
Sorry to hear that. Hey, how did you manage first place for the engine bay, we've got that trophy at home!!!!
Robert
if you look at the pics carefully it says '2 Pl' so does that mean second place? back on the subject, i'll be down there at phoenix on monday aswell so i'll see how Taz is doing. Matt Harwood
Don't worry Ian, it's a non-interference engine, AND you're running lower compression with a bigger HG. You'll be fine
Keith C
Phew!
Ian C
If it's still non-inteference all you'll need is a new cambelt and the engine timing resyncing (which is easy enough). And stock cam wheels -Ian
LeeT
Don't worry Ian, it's a non-interference engine, AND you're running lower compression with a bigger HG. You'll be fine as long as its not running 272 cams as i believe thats the point where it becomes interference
mikeyb10supra
why would the engine need a rebuild, has it been made into an Interference engine? The internals are different I think??
Whitelightning
Bugger - I came 2nd in both categories !!! It REALLY IS a crap day Or is it ? Whitelightning
Im feeling alot better now. Thats what I like about the Supra - it comes with a WHOLE community, who will at best say nice things and at worse take the piss out of you and cheer you up. We can rebuild TAZ . . . she will be faster, stronger, purple-er and hopefully won't cost 6 million dollars
Matt Harwood
LOL, she'll be fine mate.
Ian C
And I still have those stock cam gears knocking around -Ian
Alex
Get a PE timing belt! And stock cam gears if she's using stock timing positions....which I think Terry said he found were best.
Gaz Walker
Bad luck Ian. As Alex says use the PE Belt (was it the belt snapping or the gears being worn that caused it to come off?). Regards, Gaz.
Pete
As an aside point, does anyone know if the VVTi causes interferance during any of it's cam profile movement?
JustGav
The VVTI NA engine is apparently interference, but since they are rare as hell, seriously doubt one will be seen here, they are mostly LHD... The VVTi TT is a non interference engine by design.. Gav
Guest Terry S
Ian, Mark has a set of stock cam gears ready for you.
